season 8 kicks off tomorrow night 9 PM eastern
http://dsc.discovery.com/fansites/deadliestcatch/seasons/season-8.html

THE GAMBLE
Premieres April 10 at 9pm E/P
A slashed crab quota has captains reeling before the boats hit the water. With the fleet set to fight over half the catch, each skipper is forced to decide: roll the dice on the depleted Red grounds or risk it all to hunt for the elusive Blue crab.

TURF WAR
Premieres April 17 at 9pm E/P
With the fleet split, a tale of two fisheries emerges. On the Blue grounds, a captains' bet has the boats jockeying for position. On the Red grounds, a returning veteran quickly proves his worth, while another boat copes with a fallen deckhand.

the only way those two will ever learn how to run a boat is to just do it. like their dad and the timebandit brothers.

i could never be a deckhand on a boat i owned or be deckhands on other boats when i own a big ass crab boat.

I really like that show but I think it jumped the shark a couple of seasons ago. They shifted focus from the actual crab fishing - fighting ice/weather/danger - to the personal stories of the guys on board the boats. Too much personal drama, not enough exciting things happening on the sea.

I'll still watch though.

i think that changes this year. from what i have read there were some of the biggest storms they have ever faced this season. plus the quota was cut in half

After Captain Phil died, I thought that the show lost focus...

Prior to that, I thought that there was some real tension. Afterwards, most of the tension seem contrived. Hope that that makes sense...

Now for me, it seems that Whale Wars is more interesting... And unlike the Deadliest Catch the Whale Wars crew members seem to be the nautical equivalent of the '68 Mets. (Back when you could go to the stadium and know that sometime during the game you could stand up and say, "I'm better than that player...")

Watched the first 30 mins last night, got the rest on tape for this morning. It sounded to me like the brothers of the Cornelia Marie, did not have the financial ability to get the boat running for crabs this year. It may have been in for repairs as said above. We will see how it plays out the rest of the season.

Pretty much this, except I don't think I'll watch on a regular basis anymore. Just kinda lost interest when they made it all about the bickering.

in the previews for this season on the website they showed it in dry dock but made no mention of they could not afford to run the boat this year. i think the harris brothers are better off doing what they are doing this season, working in the fleet

I watched the whole season (finale was last night) and came to the following conclusions:

- Jake H. is on meth;
- Josh H. has more drive than his brother but is nowhere near ready to captain;
- Sig, Edgar, Jake A., and the rest of the Northwestern are fun to watch;
- Elliott can't go 5 seconds without cussing;
- Junior talking about how great he is is annoying;
- Keith was more mellow this year;
- I'm jealous of Wild Bill's hair;
- Trying to quit smoking on a crab boat is impossible;
- Crab fishing is hard;
- I would last about 10 minutes in those conditions

i look for josh to be on timebandit again next year or maybe edgars boat if he gets one for himself like was hinted at. kieth was definitely more calmer this year, the big $$$$ the boat made more than likely was the cause of that :) a lot less theatrics this year and more focus on crab fishing which was a good thing. looking forward to next season

Jonathan's health looks like its going down hill fast, and Sig is not too far behind him.

Josh can make it if he holds out another couple of years to finish learning the trade.

I learned you can cut off the tip of your finger without any damage to the fingernail.

Johnathan is alright, it's just very hard to breathe with smashed ribs when you're a smoker.

Jake H. is on meth. Those facial blemishes being as bad as they are indicate that to me. I wish he would just go back to smoking bud and leave that hard shit alone. He's really a good guy.

Great season, I can't wait for next season to start.

Just finished the finale.

Jake H. is a mess. Agree he has the signs of meth use, but he seemed downed out on the boat so I think he might be using H or something like Oxy. If I had been Sig I would have kicked him off the boat. I guess that Discovery wanted him there and thats why he stayed.

I don't see Josh H. becoming a captain. It costs a lot of money down to buy a boat and from what I read Phil did not leave him much. Plus, you need to buy quota now too.

The Wizard guys made 171 thousand?

Each season is less interesting. In fact, since they ended Derby fishing its just not the same show.

I dont like how much they go into the personal life this year. When they following Elliott to his ex's house, I was thinking, I thought this show was about crabbing, not his relationship? I wish they would put the focus back onto the water. The first couple of years they never showed the loading of pots on deck or loading of boats at port.

I do agree that the derby style is what I liked. It was all or nothing so it was very intense.
