in Europe & Australia :)

It's official! If you are in the Europe or AU you can take advantage of a price cut for the Xbox!

We are happy to announce that Xbox is now even greater value than ever! From 26th April 2002 you can get the Xbox experience for an estimated street price of £199 in the UK, showing long term commitment to great gaming.

As a big "THANK YOU" to everyone who bought an Xbox before 26th April we are offering, until July 1st 2002, the chance for you to get 2 games and an Xbox Controller for FREE!

Microsoft today announced that the Recommended Retail Price of the Xbox video game system in Australia will be reduced to A$399 (including GST), effective from Friday 26 April 2002.

And customers who have already bought Xbox consoles will be offered a gift of Xbox products valued at more than A$250 (RRP), making this move by Microsoft an offer and opportunity for customers unprecedented in Australian gaming history.

This brings up the question everyone (or at least me) is thinking. Will there be a price drop here in the US?

The Xbox is doing a lot better here in the US than it's doing anywhere else. Would MSFT cut the price even though it's doing better? If they do cut the price, will they be kind enough to give stuff to the people that already have one?

<----- Already has an Xbox. Would like free stuff.

My opinion is that there will be a US drop not because of sale but because of competition if others drop. As for the incentive i dont believe there will be any.

I'm thinking during E3

Xbox will drop as well...possibly only to $250 though.

Nintendo already said it will follow along with a pricedrop if Sony or MSFT do the same. The Gamecube will be sold for $150.

To what though? $249 or $199? That, my friend, is the million dollar question ;)

How did he "jerk us around", speak for yourself.

You are teetering on becoming a dealer too...

Totally desperate move to drop the price one month after launch. This thing is a stinker, dropping harder than a rock!

No, I don't think it's cheaper. I wouldn't get an X-Box though unless the prices were more like $99 a console.

Uh. This price cut means nothing, it just shows MS knows that it made a mistake at pricing the Xbox at over $400USD in other countries. They realised their mistake and fixed it, props to them. Every place except Canada is getting the Xbox cheaper now.

Japan ~$275 USD, Europe ~$250 USD, Australia ~$200. Canada is around ~$375, and well the US is at $299. Though MS has some cards up its sleeve at E3...

As Ive said in other threads, times are changing with the american market outgrowing everyother market % wise on a yearly basis, the american market matter more than Japan. The only Japanese games that do well in the US are those that are geared towards americans, 95% of the sh!t games Japan produces would never sell in the US, but are widely popular in Japan. With the US console biz expected to hit $8-10billion this year, as opposed to $7billion last year, it really does leave all other markets in the dust, doubling Japan, and it just keeps on growing, unlike Japan's gaming market, heck the UK gaming market is growing faster than Japans...
