Hoping to get a DotA community going on AT. Does anyone play the game here and wants to discuss strategy/hook up for a game or two on Garena?

I'll keep updating this thread with the major Dota News.

2010-05-10 Razer Global Challenge - 30,000 USD Prize

Razer has just announced that they are sponsoring a large online DotA tournament with an unprecedented prize pool of $30,000. It will be open to teams of all regions and skill levels.

Additionally, it will foster 1,024 team spots and has a very unique prize allocation by giving prizes to the top 64 winning teams. This is a great opportunity for new and mid-skilled teams to play with the utmost premier players in DotA and possibly win some great prizes.

The tournament will be hosted by Dota-League.com, competitive DotA's respective home and founders of Pick League and Farm4Fame series.

One of the most exciting aspects of this tournament is that Dota-League and Razer plan on making this a regular series with an increasing prize pool each time.

The top four teams will also be awarded special Razer headsets. Sign-ups begin on May 10th.

I've been playing for several years, since 6.36 I think. Just pubs, Battlenet, TDA's, low level Garena's. Just curious where the frig people play these days? I've become extremely frustrated lately with Battle.net pubs, and I haven't had much luck with Garena. If some people from AT want to get together I'm totally game.

HoN has fixed pretty much all of the problems I had with DotA.

Just curious what those were? I gave HoN like a 3 game demo but didn't really enjoy the shiny graphics and the idea of having to re learn all the frigging names haha. I've kinda got the idea now that I'll play Dota until whatever Icefrog is working on with Valve is released, but if HoN has some major functionality bonuses that I missed I may give it another test run.

Hey, sign-up on PlayDota.Com, get 100 posts and join us on PDGG (PlayDota Gayrena :)P) Group). No leavers, low lag games. Reasonably well skilled (I'm a noob compared to them, while I frequently win most of my Bored Aussie games).

Bingo. Before the wipe tomorrow I got my 10,000th kill. You don't even want to know how many games played.

LoL is a cartoony joke that took some DoTA and turned it into something completely different. No interest there.

HoN IS DoTA, with better graphics and a FAR superior interface team behind it.

And costs $30.00.

And costs $30.00.

Good. Cheap bastards who can't afford a video game they can play for YEARS for the cost of an entree at a restaurant for one meal can flock to their free games en-masse.

Seriously. A cost argument in a entertainment medium? What, you want it free? WC3 isn't free.

I'm glad HoN is out of Beta. All the Brazilians who flock from one beta to the next like parasites are all vanishing now. I'm also glad I don't have to play against all the 12 year olds who can't afford a $30 game.

I'm very happy with LoL. I should try HoN but LoL has been so much fun I see no reason to.

I played both. I'd suggest you try the same before it's too late.. tomorrow is retail release. Go download the HoN client and give it a spin while you still can for free.

I never looked back.

lol. Chill out. I can afford the video game. I also probably wouldn't play it for years. I played DoTA for a long time. But, I also played WC3 and other custom games for it. I'm playing LoL now - it can be free, but I paid for it.

Sounds like some 12 year old who can't afford a $30 game handed you your ass.

LoL was fine and all, it's not like I didn't have fun while playing it, but most of the fun of DotA for me was that everyone started on even footing. The idea of gaining persistent XP kind of ruins that for me.

HoN is exactly what I was looking for, DotA with all of the Battle.net annoyances solved.

Exactly. The LoL leveling system is a joke of unbalance aimed towards those who play more getting a in-game handicap, vs. HoN/DoTA's skill based balance.

Wrong, it's not hard to reach max level at which point it just allows for more customization and it's accounted for in matchmaking so there's generally no handicap across the teams.

Hard or not has nothing to do with it. I don't appreciate or tolerate pointless grinds that have no actual impact on genuine game play (such as leveling, quests, etc in traditional games with grinds).

Perhaps doing stupid shit for no reason is your idea of fun, playing the meat of the game vs. others on a level playing field immediately is mine.

It isn't a grind at all; you can not care about it at all and it ultimately won't affect you at all. All it does is assist with matchmaking and slowly open up the customization so you aren't hit with it all at once.

Perhaps getting butthurt over a competitors game for pointless reasons is your idea of fun; however, it doesn't make it true.

By "stupid shit" you mean playing the game right? Because that's all it takes to level...

Did someone call you mean names in LoL?

The .83 patch has changed matchmaking quite a bit to the point where everyone in game with me is usually +-4 levels which honestly is so little customization that it is easily overcome by skill.
