Dorms suck, you'll realize what a mistake you made after the year is over. I was a freshman last year and well it was pretty bad. They only serve as a good place to meet cool people that's about it.
that's pretty much true, and that's still a good reason to stay in dorms. I moved off-campus my 4th and final year and it sucked because it was like being in HS again... school then go home. Dorming is a very big part of college life. Good times... I wish it never ended.

never did end for us, 3 out of thre 4 years we HAD to be in the doems, only year we coudl live off campus was senior year, and then again onlu about 30% of the seniors got approved for that the other 70% lived in more upscale dorms, more liek apt buildings the school owned but still very dorm like

i think dorms are a positive thing for freshman because it makes us learn how to manage our own lives completely for one time in our lives plus hook up with new friends alot faster.

I would recommend:
Cleaning supplies, ie lysol, mr. clean, air freshener, stain remover, soap, purell, windex and some rags.
Vacuum cleaner, hand vac or swiffer mop.
Bring medicines, benadryl, tylenol, tums, pepto bismol, bandaids, neosporin, rubbing alcohol.

something like a beanbag chair can be nice too if you have people over and you don't want them on your bed, plus if you have a group watching movies in your room, better to have stuff to lay on...

some of the stuff is in bulk, but like your towels you buy individually, the shower stuff is all individual, your bottles of medicine might be alittle bigger than usual but most of the stuff listed would be not in too much bulk i would imagine

Most everything has been said, all I can add is

Comfy things for guests in your room to sit on

Shot glasses, plastic unbreakable ones are perfect for college, fancy ones for when you graduate

and a magazine subscription to your college mailbox (nice to have if you read stuff at home and miss it at school)

Just let people sit on the bed (I had top bunk so I didn't care they sat below on my roommate's bunks)

Our stupid dorms dont allow microwaves....

Then again what do I care, I'm not living in the dorms anymore ^^

yeah everythign listed should keep just fine...i mean the food that people have said will last forever and you can have everything else just lying around, depends on if you want all that crap just in your house for a month and a half, and if you want to move it to your dorm room like that or if you want to buy and go straight to the dorm.

make sure your dorm/residence hall allows you to bring your own microwave. mine doesn't and since I'm an RA i have to deal with all the bullsh!t that comes along with people bringing in crap they don't allow.
