counting down to coverage!
Harper will persist even in another minority. I think its going to be hard for anybody to get a majority with 5 parties on the ballot

I don't think Goodale will lose in Regina, he has a huge team door knocking. He and his wife were the only candidates to show up at my sister-in-laws house and his wife got a passport issue fixed for her a yr or two ago.
I hope Greens actual election day numbers come back same as last election and they can try to grow a regional party first with a few seats and then be taken seriously,

Liberals are screwed... NDP is doing a strong showing so far mostly at the expense of the Liberals. The Conservatives got spanked in Newfoundland which may have cost them of any hope of a majority, but they did extremely well everywhere else so far. Looks like a slightly bigger minority for the Conservatives, but will fall just short of a majority IMO. If the Liberals aren't well ahead of the Conservatives by the time a lot of the Ontario numbers are in, they are in for a big big implosion since the West will be a Conservative landslide. Expect a huge shake up, Dion was a disaster, and Canadians have pretty told the Liberals what they think of the 'Green Shaft'.

BTW I love how they show the pictures of the candidates on CBC, with the Green Party candidate almost always being a some long bearded hippie LOL:D.

53 CON versus 45 LIB vs 13 NDP vs 6 BQ vs 2 OTH, and that INCLUDES Ontario numbers, .

The big winners are going to be the NDP here.

Right now the liberals are getting spanked in Ontario, only 26% of the popular vote (in Ontario), just ahead of the NDP, still early, but it doesn't bode well.

CBC just called a Conservative Government, but still unsure if it's going to be a majority or minority

Woot! The Red Fortress known as Toronto voting Liberal may have been overthrown and we are seeing some blue! Finally, Toronto is waking up to the nightmare that is the socialist mess that Miller has created, and the Ontario run by McGuinty's Liberals. It's looking real close, will need to wait until the end to see if the Conservative are running a minority or majority. They have gained a fair bit of new seats so far.

Wow, Albertians (which I am one) really hate the Liberals, right now the NDP has a larger share of the popular vote than the Liberals!

Is it really a surprise? Dion literally ran a platform to destroy Alberta's (and Saskatchewan's) economy and give handouts to the east with his Green Shaft.

Is it really a surprise? Dion literally tried to sell off Alberta's (and Saskatchewan's) economy and give handouts to the east with his Green Shaft.

For some reason I found it surprising, not sure why though... I guess my Ontario heritage peeked through for a second, just used to seeing the Liberals at least being competitive

This time around Vancouver might have a huge impact on the election. It looks like the Conservatives will win again, but whether it's a majority or minority is still somewhat up in the air. A lot of Vancouver ridings have generally been Liberal in the past, but the Conservatives might just steal some away, perhaps pushing them over the majority edge.

At least Harper and his minions did not gain a majority. They remain somewhat limited in the way they can screw our country.

And Dion is toast. Time to make Ignatieff our leader as it should have been.

Canadians have overwhelmingly REJECTED the Liberals policies and the party is now broke and leaderless. It will take a couple of years for the liberals to recover.

Any attempt to bring down this minority government will need Liberal support so guess what. The Conservatives will run the country as they please for the next couple of years.

I am disappointed that the Con only got a minority but also glad the Green Shaft will never be implemented. The Greens did not get a single seat despite Elisabeth May's popularity and actually took votes away from the liberals.
The NDP and Jack Layton remain irrelevant.

A good day for Canada.

Harper may have missed a majority, but there is no question their mandate is stronger. They came very close in many areas which would have gotten them the majority, and the 2nd. The Liberals are in tatters.

If you looked at the voting, the Conservatives got 37% of the popular vote. The Liberals got a measly 26%. It is clear what Canada thought of the Green Shaft. Heck the Liberals got almost completlely shut out of BC other then parts of the Vancouver area; they've seen what the carbon tax has done.

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canadavotes/map/2008/#308

I find hilarious that the left still think Harper is evil and here to screw the country. Why did they get a bigger mandate this time around if they were so bad for Canada?

The Liberals had 8 seats total from everything west of Sudbury Ontario, and that includes the Yukon seat. The Liberals do NOT speak for Canada, they are pretty much a regional party speaking for mainly Toronto and Montreal. Even the NDP is more spreadout as a voice for a portion of Canadians then the Liberals these days. The Liberals shifted far too much to the left and became a joke, when they used to be a centrist party.

I too would like Ignatieff in charge of the Liberals. As long as whoever is in charge brings fiscal conservatism to the table. No more Green Shaft!

Yep Rae would bring his commie roots to the Libs carving up lefty votes but moving small c Libs to the conservatives

Harper screwing our country is party BS, of the G7 we are the only country expected to grow in the coming year, not bad in an eco shitstorm.
Hopefully they grow an environmental platform some though as a move to the center , they need to improve

A good day for Canada.

Was that before or after Harper implemented them all?

All these results show is that more Canadians feel comfortable with the CPC than they did before. Any declarations beyond that and certainly any thought of Governing as if their widespread support is likely to get the CPC nowhere near a Majority.

AKA, this wasn't a great victory of Harper, it was a predictable Defeat of Dion.

well my post election thoughts

Alberta -- we almost are fully Blue...but there is apparently going to have edmonton strathcona recounted maybe...it was kinda close...but i guess no surprise on anything there

Saskatchewan -- almost all blue (dammit regina) well that was obvious as the sask is falling in line with Alberta

greens -- this proves that they are not a real party, they should be held with the same status as the communist and mary-jane parties because well 5% isn't enough (and sad for them they were probably mostly "protest" votes) and May was stupid enough to run against Mckay....lol bad move there

NDP -- well i was hoping for a better show then that but they still gained strength i really thought they would have more support and hit 50 seats...pipedream i guess

Bloc -- well they did what they do best and win Quebec...not much to say after that

Liberals -- hahahaha the Dion choice bit them in the ass i guess, but they still kept some a lot of power...better luck next time i guess

Conservatives -- good show they almost pulled it off...i guess they need 12 people to cross the floor for a majority...will it happen no...but will everything become a confidence motion...maybe...good show by harper alot of people hate him but this once again proves that he is canada's choice and well you cannot argue with that. although interesting fact, my friend got security clearance at the harper HQ and shook the mans hand...apparently it was limp...i guess i'm giving the liberal and Ndp people in this some good information, but yeah limp handshake

My perspective 3 years then an early election again but it will be because of a failed confidence motion...or atleast my guess

My election night...being 17 and a political science major kinda sucks at this point so I went to a random house party and didn't get word of what happened until 1AM...I guess I kinda knew what was gonna happen but whatever next time i get to vote

oh and for good fun i give you this quote from the CBC

"If the kids five years up could have voted, I would have won in a landslide," she told supporters at her campaign headquarters.
from the greens May lol

oh and from their forums one of the higher recommended posts

Harper should resign immediately. He has cost the Canadian tax payers three-hundred million dollars for an election. He himself said a minority government was not working, so why should he continue working in this manner ? What a waste of money ! And for what ? NOTHING !!!!

that one made me laugh...i really hope people realize that more Canadians want him in power then the others but that one has made my day so far...the ignorance of unemployeed people on the cbc forums (btw i'm in english class at the u of c right now...not unemployed here)

I didn't vote for Rae because he doesn't know his own political stripes.

I voted Green and I'm glad that I did. I hope they use the $1.50 well.

The Afghanistan war is now on the rest of your consciences, fellow Canadians who voted Conservative. :light:

I suppose I can say the same thing regarding the stock market reaction today. Conservative voters are selfish and short-sighted with minds clouded by the elite-owned media.
