I have, or used to have minor OCD. The way I suppress it is turning it against itself, so when I catch myself doing something, I turn it into what satisfies the OCD is me NOT doing it. It works! :D

This would have made more sense with no replies.

"Everyone replied in their mind!"

We are doing Neuro/Psych right now. If med school hypochondria hadn't hit you yet, it hits you in that one. I mean hell, some of those personality disorders border on just being a normal asshole.

Plus it is fun trying to diagnosis people.

There are times when I have to check my front door to make sure its locked up to 3 times. Ive even turned my car around to check it again a few times.

i am 34, not bipolar but mabye a bit of manic depression for the past year or so... a lot of weeks it is most certainly a roller coaster... like this:

http://pics.bbzzdd.com/users/meltdown75/6296_216450510250_657935250_7632450_5217362_n.jpg

i have never taken any meds for anything like that. i don't even like aspirin... i relieve stress and negative energy by doing a bit of cardio each night during the week and partying on the weekend with friends...

i was just reading about bipolar disorder today... so it's funny you posted this. i don't think i qualify, but hey, we all have our issues and quirks, don't we? ;) i hope you find balance and happiness. hang in there man, glad you're still with us to share your story :)

You must not have lurked here long. No one really means they want the person banned when they say /ban. It is more an attempt to give them credit for a cheap laugh.

I think I have OCD. if something is out of place, I can usually never fight fixing it.

for example: my clock has to be at a certain angle facing me or I wont be able to go to sleep before i fix it. I have to chew gum in a certain order of flavor. everything has to be the way I leave it. its not official OCD but i think its true OCD

I've always felt that AT needed an official one of these. Nice to see them compressed into one big mental mess of a thread.

By the way, there is a HUGE difference between OCD and simply being "anal."

OCD = takes hours to climb a flight of stairs, because you have to count each one, go back and do it again, over and over and over. Often can't leave the house, as the process is too daunting. Spend hours fixing a little wrinkle in the carpet, whether or not it's there, etc.

fwiw, there is no such thing as "mild" OCD. It's rather serious, and quite crippling for the individual.

I suffer from depression and have been self medicating with alchohol for years (I know a depressant to treat depression isn't the right thing to do). I have been getting better that last few years and the alchohol is under control, but some days it is tough.

When I am really feeling down, I just try to get a little exercise and focus on the good things in my life.

I can't tell you how many times I've thumbed through the DSM and worried for my future. And you know me, I sure as hell ain't right.

Sounds a lot like people who smoke meth.
-reading the same sentence over and over again, taking an hour to make even 1 post on the forum
-fixing things that aren't broken
-cleaning the oven because it might be dirty

I'm trying to diagnose why my friend is such a weirdo. So far the best I've been able to come up with is hypogonadism. I haven't touched his balls and I don't know if he has boner problems, but a lot of those things seem to fit perfect.

edit:
Man that sounds really gay now that I've read it over a few times.
