Obama talks about change(?) and no better change than bring a life long politician as the VP.

Obama has been big about his opposition to the war so he chose Biden and he voted for it.

Lol this is "change" that has been consistent with Obama.

Change would be having a vice president who understands foreign policy BEYOND getting sweet business deals for your private sector fat cat buddies.

He's damned if he does, damned if he doesn't. Picks an inexperienced VP candidate and its "Oh no, TWO inexperienced politicians running!" and he because he picks an experienced politician, folks like you bitch him out because the guy is a lifelong politician. This is asinine.

Exactly. Neither candidates VP choice is going to change my decision on who I will vote for anyway.

This is true comedy. People criticize obama for lack of experience and then he goes and picks a candidate with gobs of experience in the area of greatest criticism and now it shows a lack of confidence. Some people just cannot be reasoned with, can they? Their hate will also rationalize itself.

seems like fair criticism:

In picking Sen. Joe Biden to be his running mate, Barack Obama sought to shore up his weakness - inexperience in office and on foreign policy - rather than underscore his strength as a new-generation candidate defying political conventions.

the people who see Obama's main strength being his status as a New Coke candidate probably aren't the ones who were bemoaning his lack of experience.

but where's the left going to go? Obama's the only show in town.

Surrounding himself with the same OLD political hacks that have been in the Democratic party is not the CHANGE that he has been running on.

You have a point. Obama ran with that brand and people are calling him out on it. Fair enough. However, when it comes to running the country, you will need someone with experience, but the right experience is more important. I mean, look at Bush's Administration. It is oozing with hundreds of years of experience and has done the greatest damage to America.

Obama's campaign message is "CHANGE" and getting away from the establishment and I see no better way to show commitment to that message than to choose somebody that has been a professional politician for the last 30 years(?), they have been critical of McCain's age so he goes with a 65 y/o.

Yeah because in order to be the candidate of change you have to change everything. Look at Obama, I bet if he gets elected he's going to move right into the same house that we've been using since the war of 1812! HOW CAN HE CHANGE THINGS IF HE WON'T EVEN CHANGE HIS ADDRESS.

Obama's appeal for change is an appeal to post partisanship, it's not specifically an attack on the operation of Washington. He's not trying to pull a 1980 Reagan attack, but... ah fuck it. People on here (like Budmantom) aren't interested in what's actually going on anyway they just want to sit here and snipe at each other with childish insults and facts they got from a chain email.

Did I? Obama's campaign message is change (not mine), he ran on judgment over experience, doesn't the Democratic party have somebody that can compliment Obama as a young politician with good judgment.

Does anyone actually *believe* that post partisanship bullshit from Obama? It's just rhetoric. Obama votes according to his party. He is against rights of babies born from a failed abortion. What the fvck is that? Even Barbara Boxer (Senator in my home state CA, pretty liberal) voted for it in the US senate.

I don't care if McCain is pandering to the right this election, but truth of the matter is he voted against the tax cuts even though he pissed conservatives off. He has principles and a track record that is truly "bi-partisan". You can argue that he's against repealing the tax cuts, but the economy is bad and the government shouldn't be raising taxes during bad times.

Yeah, choosing the guy who said that a guy who called his gun "baby" has mental issues and shouldn't own guns during the debates. Plus he was the guy who authored the assault weapons ban which IIRC cost Democrats a few seats. I'm sure that will turn off the gun-clinging Bible thumpers a bit...

I'm not saying it's terrible, I'm saying it contradicts his whole campaign message.

It's kind of funny how 71 is too old to be a president but but 65 is great for a VP.

Do any of you Dems see the irony or are you all blind to it?

WAIT WAIT, hold on. First you laud McCain for going against the grain, so to speak, and voting against tax cuts...and then you argue that the economy sucks and so his initial vote against tax cuts is moot as it is?

WTF mate, you aren't making any sense.

Who said 72 is too old?
BTW, if Obama/Biden is elected, Biden would be 73 at the end of a two consecutive terms. Just about as old as Mr. McCain is right now. And to add to that, there is a difference in mental acuity between the 60's and 70's. McCain would be nearing in on eighty should he make it through two consecutive terms. No irony detected there.
