Pedro to Mets. 4 years $53 million
Beltre to Mariners. 5 years $65 million
Sexon to Mariners. 4 years $48 million
Pavano to Yanks (not official yet). 4 years $39 million
Wright to Yanks (not official yet). 3 years $21 million
Renteria to Red Sox. 4 years $40 million
Wells to Red Sox. 2 years $8 million
Glaus to DBacks. 4 years $45 million

Kent to Dodgers. 2 years $17 million
Finley to Angels.
Leiter to Marlins.

If I'm not mistaken wasn't everybody crying last year that they don't have money to spend on free agents? Well, now everybody and their mother are spending like there's no tomorrow. Not only that, but clubs like Orioles and Tigers were in the bidding for most of the above names and simply got outbid or snubs by free agents. I guess things aren't as bad as they were.

Link to all signings

Braves got Tim Hudson for Charles Thomas, Juan Cruz and Dan Meyer.

So now the 1-2 punch for the Braves will be Smoltz and Hudson with Kolb as the closer..not too damn bad! DAMN BRAVES!!

I'm trying to find a link for this as I heard this on a radio show (Mike and Maddog here in NY)

Schuerholz is just tremendous..and this signing takes out alot of the big press away from the Mets signing of Pedro.

I thought the A's wanted Giles?? They think this highly of Thomas and Cruz??

Well..the "Big 3" is no longer.

JS is simply amazing. I really don't know how he does it, but between him, Cox, and Leo Mazzone(sp?) they seem to get it done every year.

Fantastic deal for the Braves, but they can easily afford it because of their elite farm system. Within 1.5 years they get rid of three top prospects in Wainwright, Meyer, and Cappellan and they still have a good farm system.

Dan Meyer is also a key piece of the deal. He's one of their top prospects - a LHP that should be almost ready.

I haven't seen news anywhere of the Hudson trade....any links?

Anyways, you're missing the Giants getting Benitez, Vizquel, and Matheny

Didn't the Braves trade one of their top pitching prospects for Danny Kolb???!! So now they get rid of another? Well..this IS for Tim Hudson after all.

Yeah and they still have one that might be better than all of them in Kyle Davies.

Wow, we traded Scott Kazmir for Zambrano while the Braves trade Cappellan to the Brewers for 3-4 years of Kolb and Meyer+others for Tim Hudson.

so who is the best GM in the game? Billy Beane or John Schuerholz?

I like Beane more, but you could easily say Schuerholz. It's a little tough to make a comparison since JS certainly has more resources available to him. JS is certainly one of the best.

schuerolz never had the resources of the yankees or mets.

also, is it me or is Hudson a younger Pedro with a better attitude.

if mazzone can get the kind of transformation Wright or Hampton did, he could end up with the Cy Young next year. 😉

i believe in the rocking power of Leo Mazzone.

JS had plenty of resources several years ago before the Braves drastically reduces their payroll. Anyways, it doesn't matter if he never had the resources of the Yankees or the Mets. Neither one of those two teams has a very good GM. The question is wether ATL has more resources than OAK, and I'd wager that they certainly do.

And no, Hudson is nothing like a younger Pedro Martinez. I think you're being a little delusional in your joy with having Hudson on the Braves now. A younger Pedro Martinez (age 25-31) was the best pitcher in the history of this game.

ya. but hudson has the stature and style of pedro, albeit he doesn't have the change up that pedro had.

still, any braves fan has to LOVE the idea of having Smoltz, Hudon and Hampton as their top three.

keep the first post updated with these... I need to keep up for my ESPN Baseball on XBOX... come on... get on it.

OK..so he has the style and stature, but doesn't have anything else that Pedro had 😉 😀

If Smoltz can hold up as a SP, then the Braves have a great 1-2 punch and even Hampton can do better than last season...it could be a very good top 3.

Well, there was the Angels signing Guerrero and Colon. There was the Orioles signing Tejada and some others of course. Maybe its just different teams? Certainly the Mariners and D-backs.
