    Just looked up Verizon Hotspot.
    $20 monthly access + $30 shared data = $50/month...Lame.
Isn't the purpose of a Hotspot to share device anyway? Why charge a monthly $20 access for it or $30 shared data? Either charge one or the other...Not both.

Lothar: Each line on T-Mobile's value plans has their own data plan, texts and minutes are shared, but data is per line.

They may have removed it, but I was able to put my mom on a 200mb plan (no throttling) for 5 bucks, since she doesn't need 2GBs. Hell, I don't even need 2GBs.

Is this on the prepaid value plan or one of their more traditional post paid plan?

So ever since I've been made aware of the auto-focus rattle and earpiece buzz issues on the n4, I cannot unhear either and its bugging the crap out of me :(

My old phone does the rattle as well, but its not as loud or high-pitched as the n4, so I've never noticed it before.

200MB is borderline too close and I don't want her to pay overage fees at $0.10/MB which seems ridiculous...2GB is too high. Maybe if there was a 400-500MB plan, that would be excellent.
If T-Mobile automatically upgrades plans to the 2GB rate during periods of high usage, that would be nice but I doubt it.

This is my mom I'm talking about here...I have no idea how much data she would use but I'm absolutely sure it would be way less than 2GB/month.
She is not one to monitor her data usage so that isn't an option either because she doesn't use her phone too much. She is not a technology person and only uses her laptop every 2 days but this is her first smartphone...You never know whether people will change their usage when they experience the lightning hose.

For only $5 more/month, it seems worth it to go with a 2GB plan which will be $10/month rather than trying to skimp by using 200MB data for a $5/month savings.

It's probably the Post-paid Value plan.
T-Mobile Value plans are not prepaid from my understanding.

    Value Plan: post-paid, BYOD pricing
Classic Plan: post-paid, subsidized phone pricing

    correct, post-paid BYOD value plan.

lothar, on the value plan, there's also an option for a hard capped 200mb that will prevent any overage charges and just disable data after that point.

i believe it's something like this. unlimited minutes/texts, 79.99. add a line for $5, but that's waived until jan 2014 due to a promotion (not sure if this is ongoing). So 5 lines with no data, unl talk/text for 79.99.
add $20 for my line, for true unlimited data = 99.99
    add $10 each for my parent's lines for 2gb data = 120.

My parents live outside the country, they're only here for a few months out of the year. same for my sister. The tmobile value plan lets me activate/deactivate their data plans at will, whenever I need them. so most months I'm paying $99

all data plans are per-line, no shared data on tmobile yet.

Is there a way to combine the notification bar and navigation bar on the nexus 10. Most other tablets seem to have them combined and it seems like a waste of space to have them separate, but I couldn't find the option.

You'll have to root and install a ROM with a tablet UI, it's not a standard option.

You have to flash a mod or ROM. This is one of the real steps back in 4.2.

I'm clueless as you but I think that's byproduct of Android's new multiuser system on 4.2 JB. I don't remember the old system file folders being like that.

USB OTG now works on N10. You can now use Stickmount to connect thumb drives, sd cards, etc. Now I might consider the tablet. USB OTG still does not work with N4.

Well, decent stands otherwise cost $20 already without audio or power.

What are the odds that LG fixes the rattling audio issue with the Nexus4 and quietly releases another revision of the phone? The nexus is 6-7 weeks away, but rattling would make me go crazy!

Maybe Google needs to work more with the manufacturers with regards to design and QA. The one fatal design flaw with the Nexus 7 is that the speaker is just too weak to be useful. This should have been addressed early in the design process. I can forgive this on a phone, but the Nexus 7 isn't a phone.

ie. Instead of just last minute conversions of 3rd party products, they should design the Nexus line with the manufacturers from the ground up.

Rattling audio on the Nexus 4? When does this happen?

I think they do. It's just that the OEM also releases the product as their own model and sells it to the carriers as well. The Nexus is an unlocked phone and is going to be relatively low volume for that reason - I think part of the reason they can get unit costs down low enough for Google to sell it at $299 is because the OEM also sells it as a carrier-locked model.

the N7 wasn't done this way though. google saw the memo pad 370t or whatever asus was calling it early this year. that product mysteriously disappeared from the market and emerged as the nexus 7 this summer.

I disagree. The Asus MeMO 370T appeared at shows with specific feature set, and then disappeared completely... and then reappeared later as the Nexus 7, but with the feature set changed. (Edit: vshah beat me to it.)

As for the Nexus 4, it seems actually to be a dumbed down Optimus G... complete with Canadian LTE support.

Meanwhile, Google UK Managing Director apologizes for Nexus 4 ordering snafus, and blames LG for lack of stock

    Dear all

I know that what you are going through is unacceptable and we are all working through the nights and weekends to resolve this issue. Supplies from the manufacturer are scarce and erratic, and our communication has been flawed. I can offer an unreserved apology for our service and communication failures in this process.

For those that originally received a 3-5 days shipping estimate, your orders are now in process for fulfillment. You can expect an email notification early this week which will include tracking information. Although you will be initially charged in full, you will receive a credit for the shipping charge soon after.

For others that received pre-Christmas shipping estimates, we anticipate processing your orders for fulfillment this week.

I realise that the people who ordered the Nexus 4 so early are among our most committed and loyal users and we are doing all we can to put things right.

    Sorry again.

    Dan

Crap! I can't believe you can't create smart playlists with Google music. Outside of the larger screen and google maps, I'm missing the iPhone.
