best ive had was one i made at home, fried quickly in butter...after the steak was done, i deglazed with cognac, then added some heavy cream and alot of fresh cracked black pepper and reduced....

i dont usually like a sauce on my steak, or even most food, but damn that was good. was an alton brown recipe, and a damn tasty one at that.

otherwise if im out i order it medium, no sauce. a good pan-seared steak is awesome as well.

OMG ALTON BROWN ROCKS...it is the only cooking show I can watch...

if i were gay I WOULD MARRY HIM!

yeah so i usually have a soda with my steak...creepy bastard

lol i know what you mean

Last week we got some Filet Mingon from the supermarket. Marinated it in some beef broth and worstershire(sp?) sauce. Cooked it up in the pan.
MMMMMM Good. It's VERY rare I've been to a restaurant that has had steak this good.

How about a filet with wasabi mashed potatoes and a smooth glass of pinot? If you like garlic mashed potatoes you have got to try 'em with wasabi instead.

My favorite meal:

filet mignon, medium rare with a black peppercorn crust
grilled onions on the side
mashed sweet potatoes with light sprinkling of cinnamon and brown sugar
mixed vegetables
merlot

Rib Eye Medium Rare (.8lbs)
Garlic,Cayenne, Buttered White Jasamine Rice (1 cup uncooked)
Half of each: red pepper, green pepper, orange pepper
Whole Milk, or Tanq 10 Straight up, or decent merlot, or a light crisp beer.

bife de lomo...a huge piece of tenderloin about 4 inches high and about 7 inches long by 4 inches wide....british style, in an Argentine Restaurant, that sucker had a cool center! hehe. since then i have not had such good steak.

I agree. The only thing I do additional to the steaks is to rub it with olive oil before adding seasoning salt and fresh ground pepper.

I also prefer oven over grill anyday. Grilling ruins the steak IMO.

The best steak I've had at a restaurant is at Chops here in Atlanta. But I prefer to cook my own at home as it's better than any restaurant steaks.

how do you cook it in the oven?

..thanks.

Guarantee you'll love it.

Nooo! That's how this one place in town makes steaks and I had heard such great things about it, and then I see them cooking it like that and it was...ok, not great by any means, grilled is so much better..
