Cops possess entirely too much power for their complete lack of training in human interaction and psychology.

Besides going to parties that got broken up.....

I got pulled over for having a busted license plate illuminator light. How the hell do you notice those things anyways? It's not as noticeable as a taillight and it took the cop 5 minutes of tailing me to finally realize and pull me over. He was cool about it.

There was this once we finished cleaning up someone's house the day after we threw a party and we carried all teh alcohol back to my friend's place. We had trays and trays of jello shots and at least $200 of alcohol left that we were carrying (unloading from car). Some cop pulled maybe 15 - 20 ft away and got out. He probably got a call from an apartment nearby. He looked around and waited around like someone was suppose dto come down. My friend was struggling carrying all the alcohol, and I was like "Dude hurry up even the cops are here." Apparently I said it too loudly and the officer looked over at us and was like "Oh I'm not here for you." I was like uhhhh sure ok. Apparently it was the day of the Cal Stanfurd football game and I guess he was just turning a blind eye to the parties that were going on that night.. And then he asked us if we went to watch the game (we said yes), and we walked off with our box of alcohol and jelloshots.. I was just worried cuz I'm underage =P

I don't really think it's necessarily look at it as a good cop/bad cop thing, but the motive behind it.

It seems like it used to be (from the old grizzled state troopers I talk with) that they joined to help people. Some retired and became teachers. They were in it for the greater good.

Now it seems most folks are in it just for the small bit of celebrity in it. Makes them feel like someone important. That people have to listen to them where as they never would have gotten the attention before.

That mostly seems to be the city cops. County and state around here are still the good ol' boys type just out there doing a job. Not trying to show off.

depends on the person now don't it?

most are good people with a hard job. trouble is it takes 1 or two to screw it up for the rest.

the few times i have delt with them have been fine.I have recieved a few speeding tickets in my life. they police officer has been kind and respectful.

last two times have been good. i used to have a small red sportscar. well one night i got pulled over because a guy in a little red car had tried to mollest a small child in the are i was driving. so of course he pulled me over. After talking to me he apologized for pulling me over and said have a good night.

the other time i was at a party. a girl spilled her beer and wiped her hands in my hair. well i got pulled over. teh cop asked me about it and just laughed and sent me on my way.

Hmm, LEO in my state have more psychology then a RN and a better ongoing training/learning program. Recertification every year, madatory degrees, etc.

I used to be a drug addict/criminal and have had MANY run-ins with the law, from being thrown against the wall and searched to having my door kicked down in a drug raid. I've had cops treat me well and also treat me like crap. I voted in full support of law enforcement and hold nothing at all against the police.

They were just doing their job. I knew the rules and chose to break them. That wasn't their fault.

As far as personalities, people are a-holes in general, and cops are people too. No different than any other profession except they are under 1000x more stress wondering if the next guy is going to pull a gun.

Need to add option for "do you respect the police"

"Yes, because of their behavior and service"

----------------------------------------------------------
I have many times walked up to an officer, pretty tipsy, in any environment and shook his hand or gave him a nod saying "Glad you guys are here. I appreciate it."

Most cops are pretty cool and just normal joes serving the public. They do it out of a desire for community service, just like firemen. So I have the utmost respect for them serving the public.

Police serve a necessary function in society, but some officers tend to interpert the law differently than others.

My perspective in life is that I don't respect anyone, for any reason, unless they earn my respect. While there are several officers that I respect, I don't respect the majority of them. I've interacted with many law enforcement agencies, in many capacities. I've never been arrested, detained, etc. Most of my interaction with officers has been on a professional basis (such that their department is assisting mine, or mine is assisting them), and most of the officers I've had to interact with are such stuck up pricks that I'd rather have a root canal than interact with most.

I completely understand their purpose, but I am very, very strongly opposed to the way most law enforcement agencies operate.

I'll stop there before I get murdered.

Some cops are nice...You gotta give them respect but I have met quite a few who are total dicks.
