Well, I'm already a fan of about a month now. I have an awesome show at work, but forget the date and I deleted it from my hard drive.

The most downloaded show at archive.org is this:
Feb 7, 2004

And this one is also recomended highly:
May 20, 2004

I'm currently DLing these two.
So, any fans in here that can recomend some more "good" shows.

it was part of the Big Summer Classic (with keller, new monsoon, string cheese, spearhead and yonder mountain)

umphreys was great, the show was 7/15/05 in richmond. i havent bothered to check archive or anywhere else to see if they have it

i have seen them a few times since Phish broke up, and they are okay but dont to it for me. I saw them a few weeks ago at Raleigh and they were okay, worth seeing if the drive is around an hour, but I dont see myself going on McGee tour anytime soon. I think the Raleigh show is up on archive.org its worth a listen.

yeah, i think this is why i saw them all the time when i was in chicago. I havent seen them since i moved- and it's been 3 years. they have some decent jams, and are a fun band, but i wouldnt make NYE plans around them or anything.

not to hijack this thread, but what band do you guys see as taking over the jam scene?

well this is a tough question. I dont think any band will take over jam scene from Phish until Phish returns (which i strongly believe will happen in the next 2-3 years). Panic, SCI, Yonder, Bisco, Umphrey's are all good, but just dont push the envelope IMO. But, if I had to place it a bet it would be umphrey's, as they are the most talented of the bands i mentioned. Everyone thought Panic was going to be the next GD, but the talent just wasn't there and then Phish exploded. SCI has the same situation, they try but the fans just dont want to seem to flock to them. Of course my opinion is biased since phish was my music life for a long time. :)

moe. escaped mention here . . . but I guess they are a little too much rock to really dominate the genre . .

I love Umphree's, but I think maybe SCI in general has better songs (though its hard to beat a good Umphree's jam . . in the show I mentioned the opening song is one huge (20 min) incredibly amazing jam).

Whichever way it goes, I don't think either of them have enough widespread appeal to dominate. Widespread Panic . . I don't know, I'm not a very big fan of theirs. Some of their songs just strike me as boring.

The Big Wu . . they already attract huge crowds at their Family Reunions . . . damn good music there, too.

I'd say of all the bands out there, none really stand to inherit Phish's place, and certainly not the GD's throne. Its cool this way, though, because instead of a festival being a one-band event, you have dozens of really great bands getting together, and between them they attract the crowds.

the big wu suck now. i saw them in 00/01/02 andjust recently (04) after they got rid of jason. you can really hear al (keys) but there's really something missing and their jams left much to be desired. SCI is way past their prime, they were ALRIGHT in 00. Panic... i can't believe they're still goin as strong since mikey died. it's amazing really. i havent seen them sine either- so i dunno how their new guitarrist is doing.

i'm pretty impressed, there are a couple jam-heads here!

Concur with most of what this poster says.
I'd agree that Umphrey's is on top right now.
The nSCI with YMSB

I've listeent to Panic shows, but not that interested in them.

And jsut so you know. I read an interview with Trey where he says they are all still friends and no one has ever said that they will never get back togetehr. I think they are just true musicians that are trying to expand their abilities and knowledge. And one day, they will probably regroup.

And I know the first show will be a surprise gig at a bar in Burlington like they used to do long ago. I can't remember the name of the bars name though. Apaprently they would just show up ranomly (I'm sure the owner knew about it but kept quiet).

It's odd, I became a fan of Phish after they borke up, maybe a year ago. That's how I got into the jam band scene. The irony is I used to hang out with Phsih heads in college (1997 mostly) and never got into Phish. It's no irony that the biggest fan was a drummer. Now I understand why musicians like Phish./ I even got a hard core jazz fan to say "who's that" when I wasw playing Phish one day at work . He kloved teh improvisation but I doubt he';ll ever pick up on jam bands. M<aybe if Phish gets back together, I'll treat him to a show!

Anywasys....spelling errors due to :music::beer::beer::beer: and  is vausing me to not care top fix the spelling errors.

I have seen trey's new band (70 volt parade) 3 times since phish broke up and they are decent and continue to improve every time i see them. not bad, but no phish and its not suppsoed to be. check out www.phish.net or www.phantasytour.com to see the news and the latest buzz. Trey gave this reply in a recent interview about phish getting back together :):crosses fingers::)

taken from phish.net:

11/3/05 - Trey rejects certainty about breakup's permanency
In a 10/31 story in the Illinois Entertainer, when asked"So keep all Phish questions at bay, because they're not getting back together anytime soon . . . right?". Trey is quoted as answering, "It's so funny that nobodys asked me that! We're definitely not now, and I would never do that because it was all the rage. All I'll say to that is I've said so many stupid things in the past, that have come out of my mouth, if theres one thing I'm finally starting to learn is I don't know whats going to happen. But I'd like to play music for a long time and I love those guys. Who knows?" [Editors note: 12/31/06! 12/31/06! 12/31/06!]

That would be amazing.

I got into Phish RIGHT as the pharewell tour was announced, and caught both of their shows at Deer Creek in June of '04. Absolutely nothing like it. The best 2 nights of my life.

I'd kill for a reunion.

On topic, I need to check Umphrey's out. I haven't listened to much of their stuff. In Phish's absence I have turned into a Panic fan, but I really would like to get into some different bands.

Tealeaf Green and O.A.R. are both great and are on archive.org. Not sure if O.A.R. qualifies as a jam band, though.

Check out Antibalas. A rare find. Unfortunately, most of the shows you can get at etree and archive.org are not of good quality. The 2004-06-10 show is simply amazing though!

UM is probably one of hte more mainsteram Jam Bands. IMHO, their popularity exists for a reason. Of A revolution is also kinda big, but I don't think they are anything that great.

EDIT: Alot of Trey's shows can be found at archive and etree. And msot of them are awesome. Also, try to find Phish new years 1993. Awesome show
