I fail to see anything of substance there. What am I supposed to be seeing?

We have what you want. :D

I believe they do, even though I am a happy ti4400 owner.

Thanks! Greece is a beautiful place. I hope to go back briefly this summer.

(r500 - next year) ;)

Actually, I believe nVidia (already) does . . . in about 8 days. :p

I just want to know if the Rv420 can push Far Cry @ 1280x1024 with max details. If the 9800pro could @1280x960, I'm sure this thing could even play it with AA/AF. I'm hoping. Or ill be very disappointed especially considering this thing will cost well over 400 dollars more than likely.

You can tell just by the hush-hush, keep you in suspense marketing, that they are going to charge a back braking price. Plus I think these cards will be sporting 256 MBs of on board DDR that likely cost a small fortune in it of itself.

So, in your eyes, R420 is a failed attempt. ATI might as well skip R420 and move right to R500.

actually, R420 should be pretty nice and the prices of the 9800s should drop . . . it's just that i believe nVidia has the better solution (I think ATI will have the 'dustbuster' this time). . . but then we'll know for sure next week. ;)

If you mean "dustbuster" as in a loud cooling solution, I am quite doubtful. ATi knows what happened to nVidia and they also know such solutions are not OEM friendly.

Are you just speculating, or do you have facts to back up your statements?

I think Apoppin knows all...or has a source that knows all...and won't share with the other kiddies.

Hah. I actually want to see Nvidia get back in the swing of things. Show us something that will sweep us off our feet.

Well, I actually don't care who, just as long as it impresses me. The 9700 core needs to go.

Are these new releases actually new designs, are just more rehashes of the 9700 and FX cores? It's been a while since we've seen something that's really new.

Rumor has it that NV40 is entirely new whereas R420 is a spiced-up, .13mu Low-K, higher-clocked version of R350 with GDR3 memory.

I seem to remember that ATI does this usually within a few weeks of a new design release (ie. for an April R420 release, not a mid-May release). Is that true?

Sounds like my kind of iced tea. ;)

:D

Of course it's speculation . . . and we'll (all) know for sure next week . . .

. . . . and I gotta find a hot deal pre-order for a new GeForce NV40 . . . .

. . . it's kinda 'exciting' to have a nVidia GPU (again) after all these years as an 'ati man' . . .

Jeez, now I'm getting PMs . . . :frown:

Honestly, it's just 'informed speculation'. (here's the Cliffs' notes:)

As I posted many times before, I just read EVERYthing I can on ATI vs. nVidia and have been following this since my first ATI Rage chipset (when ATI first started to care about performance).

The new ATI GPU seems to be a rehash of the 9700 (r300) that we know and love . . . a very ADvanced rehash, but rehash nonetheless. OTOH, nVidia knows it has lost it's 'topdog' status (despite nvidiot claims to the contrary) and has devoted MAJOR resources to its NEW (well nothing is "new") GPU (note the 'secrecy' and lack of hype).

UNLESS the Canadian company can pull off a major UPset (which I cannot forsee THIS time - "watch out for R500!"), nVidia "wins" this round. . . . therefore, my next GPU . . . ;)

I have been on this board for awhile and have no fear (or shame) looking foolish when my predictions are "off". We'll see (but I would take bets [IF it were legal]). ;)

:D
