I hope you're right and I'll give them until Friday. If I get no word I'll jump ship to a different company for my 4800.

Thanks for for confirming that a new DFI board can be flashed with the X2, Romir.

BTW, ewitte, when did you order?

On 5/31 around 6pm. I filled out the form to check on status twice. Each time they just told me to watch the ETA on the website. There also taking thier time on some "in stock" memory I ordered last week (express saver that has not shipped yet). I think I'm going to avoid ordering from them in the future.

My 4400+ preorder from Monarch shipped! It shipped yesterday and is scheduled to arrive tomorrow. Unfortunately, I am on vacation the rest of this week so I won't be able to test it until next week. I preordered on 5/31. So, there is hope out there for you guys holding onto your Monarch preorders. :)

TankGuys, I have seen 6/22 and 6/30 as possible ship dates for retail X2s. I already have on on preorder with you (I was one of the first). I am just wondering if you can give us any dates that you have heard. You don't have to say you expect them to ship on any date, but just knowing any of the dates you have heard will be helpful.

I have also seen 8/1 as a possible date and I just can't wait that long.

Okay, perhaps if I list out the information I have heard, you'll understand the confusion better and our inability to give a firm estimate :)

From Distributor 1: X2's are in thier system, on order, "ETA" is 8/1/05
From Disrtibutor 2: X2's are in thier system, on order, no ETA
From Distributor 3: X2's are in thier system, none on order.
From Distributor 4: X2's aren't even in thier system.
From AMD: Absolutely nothing helpful.

So basically we've heard "August 1st" "No idea" "we don't even have them on order" "We don't even know what those are" and "Thanks for buying AMD products but we have we can't give you any useful information."

Pretty good answers, huh? So needless to say, it's tough for us to give you a good idea yet. As soon as I actually get some reasonable answers, I'll post and let you all know. In the meantime, if you actually find retail units in stock elsewhere, don't hesitate to cancel your order with us and buy from them. I don't *think* that's going to happen, but if it does, I would completely understand anybody's desire to switch companies.

How does a June release go to a August release?

That's the million dollar question. Nobody seems to know. 3 of those 5 suppliers all originally said early June, then they kept "revising" the estimates. Apparently AMD kept delaying outbound shipments, but there isn't much explaination as to why this is.

Easily, we are AMD, you want our stuff, you wait in line, we're better then intel, were smarter then them, but our reps and production managers are uncoordinated, what do you expect? they haven't spoken to each other since k6 production started. We cannot supply what we sell, yet we can talk about it months in advance, but you know what? we are still successful because we can sell hype better then anyone can.
(*Yes, I too have a 4400+ preordered*)
:p

Anyone know anywhere where I can get a 4400+ OEM shipped this week? I am just too impatient and have a PC sitting here ready to go with no CPU and BF2 comes out TOMORROW!

Another excellent question.

Each week (sometimes every day) we get a file from our major distributors with thier prices on each part. We have a pretty hefty database that imports those files, runs comparisons to existing data to remove discontinued items, then allows us to add new items, updates our wholesale prices, then automatically calculates our customer prices based on a set forumla.

So, the price we charge on the website is directly tacked to the price we pay for the parts wholesale, and it's the exact same markup for every part. So our OEM's are more expensive because they are more expensive for us to buy. I have no idea why that is frankly.

Newegg has the 4600+ and 4800+ in stock, if you want dual cores now and don't mind paying $200 or more over what a 4400+ would cost to get them Really Soon Now. ;)

I'm tempted to just order a 4200+.

I'm running on my laptop now because my Pentium 4 chip is gone forever now. I have all the parts but the chip. I just wish there was a review comparing the 4200+ to the 4400+ directly, so I could convince myself one way or the other. Oh the torture :(

Haven't there been reviews comparing older Athlon 64's of the same clock speed but different amounts of cache? I think that might give you an idea of whether it's worth waiting for the 4400+ or not.

I just saw you have an X2 and a DFI NF3 Ultra - the new motherboard. How is it working? How do you like the DFI NF3 ultra? Where did you get your X2 from? Did you have to flash the bios. I am sure alot of people with hihg-end AGP cards (6800 Ultra for me) would love to know

thanks

That's a good idea. I found this one, for the 3700+ SD but they're comparing it to a Winchester/Newcastle 3500+. I'm not sure if the increases are due more to the cache or the improved memory controller. I'll keep looking though, thanks :)
