anyone know how I can run my cpu @133, and my ram at 166? I don't see any actual dividers listed in the bios, and the only speed selections I see are auto, and 266 (133).

I don't think you can. The only ratios that are available are 1:1, 5:4 and 3:2...
400 = 1:1
320 = 5:4
266 = 3:2

Edit:
On the other hand AUTO might do it if you have true PC2700.

Yo Ilya; You need to configure the BIOS IDE settings according to your system. Go into BIOS, go to IDE Configuration under MAIN. For XP, set to ENHANCED MODE, P-ATA & S-ATA, NO, 30. Save and Exit. Go back in to BIOS and make sure that the drive is detected in BIOS. Set the Boot priority. Now, here's the bummer, you probably need to reinstall XP at this point. You installed RAID accelerator drivers, not SATA IDE drivers, which are part of the Intel INF drivers suite on the CD. Format the drive, set the partition, and re-install. Once the install is complete, install ALL the drivers off the Asus CD. If you aren't running RAID, you don't want RAID drivers, and you don't want RAID enabled in the BIOS. Thus you don't need to configure for RAID in XP, either.

You need to set the FSB to 133 to run your memory at 166. Performance mode needs to be set at Auto. If you leave it in Standard or Turbo it will run at DDR355. Use cpuz 1.18 to check your memory speeds in Windows. For some reason at 133 FSB with Standard or Turbo mode, memory multiplier is at 3:4 ratio. Hope this helps you out.

I just got mine in from NewEgg.com. They are so F-in fast for delivery! It got to me in less than 48 hours after I made the online purchase. Then again it helps living 10 minutes away from NewEgg. :)


QUESTION:
The Kingston PC3500 memory I ordered will not arrive until Monday. I have a single Nanya PC2100 stick of RAM. Will there be any problems if I try to get my system up with that stick in the meantime?


EDIT: How can I tell what BIOS version I have?

Difference between dlx and non-dlx is that deluxe has IDE RAID and firewire. The non-deluxe has Serial ATA raid only.

I just read the review at hardoCP on this board. They claim the IDE RAID performance of the VIA controller is horrible. They could not tell any difference in performance between RAID 0 and 1 configurations. I was getting the deluxe model mostly for the IDE RAID but now I don't know. Maybe just get the cheaper version and save a few bucks. The Abit IS7 seems to be getting some attention as well.

One more side note since a lot of people are trying to decide which memory to buy for this board. On Kingston's site they are now selling matched pairs of Hyperex memory for use in dual channel boards., much the same as the Corsair TwinX. 512MB PC3500 X2 is $300....ouch!!!!

Problem!

I put together my system and when I tried to boot it everything comes on fine for a second, then everything immediately shuts off. So I can't boot the motherboard. The MB power light remains on, but that is the only normal thing happening.

Here is what I have:

P4P800
P4 2.4c
512 MB PC2100 Nanya
Gainward Gf2 Ti200
IBM HDD
Maxtor HDD
Pioneer DVDR burner
Pioneer DVD player
Adaptec SCSI2 card w/ Plextor 12x writer
400 watt ps

That is my complete list of what is on the system.


Any suggestions on what is wrong?

Since you're using the PC2100 RAM make sure to set the FSB:RAM ratio to 3:2. If you've already done that then I'm not sure what the problem could be.

I found out what the issue was. I didn't know there was a new 12v, 4-pin power connector that new power supplies and motherboards have. My older A1 power supply doesn't have that connector. I replaced it with the power supply that came with my new case and discovered that connector. Then I looked on the MB and somehow it fit in there. I now have my system booted to the BIOS. Everything is fine, so far. :cool:

i see as i boot up it says something about dual channel 333 linear and wonder what the linear part means?

also the manual only talks about filling all the mem slots or 3 of them. nothing about using just 2 sticks.
i think i put them in the wrong slots, chose a and b instead of 1,2. going to switch and see if it changes.

wish the manual was more specific

ok i switched the sticks, they are now both in the first set of rows. when i boot up i see a message saying
" DDR Frequency 333, single-Channel or Virtual Single-Channel"

what does that mean? how do i tell if i am actually running my 2 sticks in dual mode? shoudl the sticks be on the 1st set of slots or 1 in each set?

Please help me understand this :(

they are color coded...put each stick in the same color slot as the other. Then it will boot up in dual channel mode

If you are using an 800 FSB "C" cpu use the blue slots.If your using a 533FSB "B" CPU use the blackslots.

n00b question on the P4P800 motherboard:

The P4P800 beeps 2 times when it boots up. Is that normal for it to beep 2 consecutive times at each bootup? I thought it was supposed to beep only 1 time for normal bootups.

I have a question about the best way to add front USB + Firewire connections to my case. I have the front plate already. I just need cheap connects to the mother board. Anyone know of a good retailer?

ok i will try the black slots.

camander dred - i originally did do the what you suggested and that is when i got the dual channel linear mesage.

what exactly should it say or how should i be able to tell that they are running in dual channel?

ok i put the sticks into the black slots. now on boot up i get the same message i did in the beginning - dual channel running in linear mode. does this mean that i am running in dual channel but that i only have 1 set instead of 2 sets (all 4 slots filled) ?

if not what message or how do i tell that i am running in dual channel mode and not normal ?

Download the newest version of CPU-Z, and check out the memory tab. It will give you your timings and dual channel status. My screen goes by too quickly to read, so I don't know if mine says that. Sorry.

What's the cheapest pair of 512mb PC3200 sticks that will run this board stably. I'm leaning towards the Crucial as per the AT memory test but Crucial is not listed under the Asus compatibility list..
