April Fools’ Day came early at Fargo North High School this year.

A prank Wednesday successfully fooled – and alarmed – teens who were told the annual prom was canceled.

“They were going crazy,” junior Ryan Reza said. “It was getting a little funny.”

The morning announcement over the intercom Wednesday told students the much-anticipated April 24 event was canceled due to poor behavior at dances in the past and numerous hours of detentions.

Any complaints were to be directed to the student council (which was actually behind the prank).

Reza, a student council member, said he ducked under the lunchroom table after the announcement to avoid screaming seniors who demanded a refund for their prom dresses and suits.

The joke was supposed to go until the end of the school day. But after only an hour, administrators had fielded so many calls from concerned parents that they reassured students it was all a joke.

“We were just inundated with phone calls,” Assistant Principal Kathy Cieslak said. “I think the student council got the effect they wanted.”

In the end, everyone laughed off Wednesday’s prank, Reza said, which the student council did simply to boost student morale.

“We felt we needed to do something to spice things up at North,” he said.

It sure worked.

“It’s a good thing it didn’t last until 2,” Spanish teacher Deb Smithson said, adding with a laugh: “If they really wanted to improve behavior at dances, it would only take doing this once.”

Did a speed bleaching on a co-workers teeth today. Turned out nice and white, brought her up 2 shades.

Later she was eating cheezies, and I told her to go look in the mirror b/c you're not supposed to eat anything with a lot of color after a bleaching, and her teeth were all orange.

Not. Look on her face was as imagined. 😱

One of my roommates just left for class.... I changed the locks to the front apartment door, tripped the breakers for the stove and microwave (not real "handy" probably would never think to check the breaker box), and placed deep red body wash on the doorknobs in a way that it can't be seen.

April fool's is his favorite day of the year, and I'm gonna outdo him this year 🙂
