What was the party affiliation of the justices involved in that case and how did the republicans/democrats vote?

what i mean is, how many republicans voted for it and how many democrats voted for it, of those justics.

Hmmm, maybe we can dump all the "religious nuts" topics into this too, after all that's just a bunch of lefties winking and nodding at each other... and that gets old after about 10 seconds ;)

Wait... actually I think the LOCK-o-meter on this thread is pretty high, so why bother....

Why not, the only time I have started a new Economy or Oil thread is when the formatting on the thread has gotten fubared.

It's not meant as a joke or rib on anyone. P&N was started as a way to keep the Format clean.

Folks should demonstate that this Forum can Police (hate the term but only thing I can think ATM) itself.

Good question. From the decision:

BLACKMUN, J., delivered the opinion of the Court, in which BURGER, C.J., and DOUGLAS, BRENNAN, STEWART, MARSHALL, and POWELL, JJ., joined. BURGER, C.J., post, p. 207, DOUGLAS, J., post, p. 209, and STEWART, J., post, p. 167, filed concurring opinions. WHITE, J., filed a dissenting opinion, in which REHNQUIST, J., joined, post, p. 221. REHNQUIST, J., filed a dissenting opinion, post, p. 171.

I don't think justices are supposed to have a declared party affiliation (since the whole idea is that they're neutral) so it will take some digging to determine who fits where. I'll see what I can find.

No and I'm not sure where you are heading with that, either.

I wasn't planning on being the sole contributor, was trying to stop multiple threads by the same OP on the same subject.

Speaking of OP's, this ought to really get one particular poster pretty pissed off:

1-19-2005 Parent Notification Laws Won't Stop Teen Sex

Laws aimed at forcing teens to get their parents' permission before getting contraception will do nothing to scare youngsters off having sex and may in fact increase rates of teen pregnancy, U.S. researchers reported on Tuesday.

And trying to frighten teenagers about the risks of pregnancy is equally ineffective, a second study found.

The researchers said their findings support the argument that teens need to get good information about contraceptives, including condoms, and argue against current federal policies pushing abstinence-only education.

Several newly elected senators have pledged to press for a federal notification law and such laws are also in the works in several states. A study of 1,500 girls under the age of 18 who used family planning clinics, which provide contraceptive and pregnancy services, showed the parents of 60 percent of them knew the young women were using the clinics, said the Institute's Rachel Jones.

But close to 20 percent of the girls said if they had to get permission to use contraceptives from their parents, they would do without

"Only 1 percent said their response would be to stop having sex," Jones told the briefing.

"We need to recognize that mandated parental notification laws would not stop teens from having sex but ultimately would increase rates of sexually transmitted diseases and pregnancy," Jones said.

Even those adolescents who most actively believe they are not going to have sex before marriage, for instance those who take virginity pledges, 80 percent of them will eventually have sex before marriage

1-19-2005 High Court to Overturn Roe V. Wade

At least three justices, including Rehnquist, have said Roe v. Wade was wrongly decided and should be overturned.

Norma McCorvey, whose protest of Texas' abortion ban led to the 1973 ruling, contends in a petition received at the court Tuesday that the case should be heard again in light of evidence that the procedure may harm women.

"Now we know so much more, and I plead with the court to listen for witnesses and re-evaluate Roe v. Wade," said McCorvey, who says she now regrets her role in the case.

1-24-2005 Conservative Christians pray Bush takes cue - Ex.-La. lawmaker in vanguard in gay marriage, abortion fights

WASHINGTON -- Tony Perkins was sitting in the state-of-the-art studio at the Family Research Council's Washington headquarters recently, firing questions at new U.S. Sen. David Vitter for a radio show that is broadcast over 150 stations nationwide.

Perkins, the council's president, praised Vitter for making history as the first Republican elected to the Senate from Louisiana since Reconstruction. But he also left Vitter with this message: You've voted 100 percent of the time to support the council's conservative agenda during your five-year House career, and "we anticipate" similar results now that you're in the Senate.

Perkins credits largely to what he calls "values voters" concerned about gay marriage and the continuation of policies that "promote abortion on demand" -- Perkins has not been subtle in suggesting it's time for Bush and the GOP Congress to deliver.

It's fine for the White House to champion overhauling Social Security and the tax code, Perkins said, but voters really want a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage and confirmation of conservative judges who will eventually create the impetus to overturn the Roe v. Wade

Perkins, 41, a former Louisiana state representative and unsuccessful candidate for the U.S. Senate in 2002, has emerged as one of the leading voices on the conservative Christian agenda. Thanks to the council's $11 million budget and a nationwide network of pastors he helped establish to champion the council's causes, Perkins is seen as a major player on the national scene. His own agreeable personality, good looks and ability to tell a joke -- something he says isn't all that common among his fellow conservatives -- has made him a favorite of producers who book cable news guests.

The mission statement of the council -- created in 1980 with the help of James Dobson, founder of Focus on the Family and an influential spokesman for Christian conservatives -- says it "champions marriage and family as the foundation of civilization, the seedbed of virtue and the wellspring of society."

Perkins said that in Ohio alone a network led by hundreds of ministers helped increase turnout among Christian conservatives. Perkins said that group included African-American ministers who helped Bush get a share of the black vote that historically goes overwhelmingly for Democrats. That was a decisive factor in giving Bush a 118,000-vote margin in a state he had to win to remain in the White House

At the Republican National Convention, Perkins handed out copies of the book "Outrage: How Gay Activists and Liberal Judges are Trashing Democracy to Redefine Marriage" and fortune cookies with sayings such as "#1 Reason to Ban Human Cloning: Hillary Clinton."

Now let's see the RRR FLL P&N Elitists refute their own Christian Leader.
