very glad to see the hurricanes take boucher as a backup. cam was very good last year, but obviously worn out at times (74 starts :Q)

montreal paid too much for cole. i like the guy, and he was looking very good last year, but i didnt think hed fetch so much. the other signings were ok, but nothing special.

hopefully they dont fill coles spot and one of the AHL kids (like dalpe or boychuk) will get some serious NHL minutes this year.

the D is meh, no one new, and it was god awful last year. I hope dave lewis does one hell of a job with the defense. they think they can contend for the playoffs, but i doubt it.

I know it's been a weakness the last couple years as the hawks were almost purely a skill team...they do have some grinders/hitters now, that's for sure. I just hope it doesn't kill the speed that hawks tend to play at during the course of a game.

Well, Richards is a Ranger. 9 yrs @ $6.5mm per, front loaded. An OK cap hit for the top UFA but the years are long.

With this, and supposing the other forward signings end up even "ok" then if they can get the PP scoring together and even manage it to be "average" I think they have a decent shot at a playoff spot

From what I heard, LA did match (or exceed) NY's offer. Calgary significantly exceeded it. He gave the Rangers a discount. Only reason I can think of is to play with Tortarella again. I can not for the life of me understand why anyone would want to play for that dickhead.

After having the weekend to think about it though, I'm not nearly as upset about the Varlomov trade. I think there is a reason nobody really wanted Vokoun, he was asking for way too much money and is past his prime. If the Capitals think he is going to be the guy in the playoffs I think they are going to be upset yet again this year.

Very excited that the Devils signed fourth overall pick Adam Larsson to a max-salary entry level contract with no performance bonuses for a total cap hit of $925k. He'll likely spend at least part of the season in the NHL this year, which would have been difficult if he had a $2-3 million cap hit.

Hopefully Parise signs a 5+ year contract.

Devils lost free agent superstar play-by-play announcer Doc Emrick to NBC/Versus. People who only hear him on national broadcasts either love him or hate him, but Devils fans love him. He will be missed.

It's understandable though, he's getting older and wants to spend less time travelling and calling games. Working for NBC/Versus exclusively allows him to do that.

the hurricanes have john forslund, who does some announcing for versus. him i like

they also have tripp tracey, who can get hit by a greyhound for all i give a damn. if you havent had the displeasure of putting up with the guy while you watch a game, i envy you.
