hey if they get offered good starter from team that needs his bat or glove at first i am sure they would listen
Yes, but,
the question was:
What players could realistically be on the trading block?
Davis is batting .300 with power and good defense and, as I said, is under their control through 2017.
They are not looking to trade him. There is NO logical reason.
Because he's under control for so long, they'd have to be offered someone with appreciably more talent, or a package that offered the same.
Not likely, not even close.
Ask yourself, what team is in such a need of a first baseman? If there is such a team, what do they have to offer that they would be willing to offer?
Unless you can come up with plausible answers to both of these questions, you have to admit: Ike Davis is one of the
least likely trade candidates on the entire team.
Now, the only reasons we are discussing possible Mets trade candidates
at all are a)their semi-precarious present financial position combined with b)the fact that they are
not necessarily legitimate contenders now or in the near future.
Beltran is in the last year of a hefty contract and is old. It makes sense to try and get something for him because NOW because they won't get anything for him after the season ends and he won't be around to help if and when they return to contention.
Reyes makes sense because he is in the last year of his contract and will command a hefty contract on the free agent market, which, to those who think so, won't make sense for the Mets to do because they will be laying out money they may not have to spare in the short term for a player on a team that will be in rebuilding mode.
Davis is neither old nor expensive -- in fact,
just the opposite -- nor will he even be able to be a free agent until, again, 2017.
