An outstanding pitching performance by Pettitte earns him a loss.

I've never said this before, because I am a fan of his and I realize it's not his fault, but Torre gotta go just for the sake of change.

how will a new manager change things? I think Torre is doing all he can. it is not his fault Abreau (sp?) is batting under .250 or having Arod sizzle down to below .300 or even the fact the Mr. Johnny Damon is not as offensive as he normally is. All a new manager will do at this point is add to the list of woes. Not only will they have to find themsleves out of their slump, but they will also have to adjust to a new a manager. Blame the office for not fixing their bullpen also. They praise pitchers like Mike Myers when in reality all he will give you in just one inning. It's the reason why the red sox no longer wanted him. Also, do they really think Clemens will be this hero? the guy will only pitch in...how many....20 games and he will be home for the rest of them? last I saw, they were close to 15 games out of first.

A new manager will shake things up. At the rate they're going now, that can only be a good thing. Of course it's not Joe's fault, but ultimately the buck stops with him and a change is needed. It really can't be worse than what is going on now.

Mike Myers has been a lefty specialist his entire career, that's not why Boston let him go. He always had alot of appearances but does not eat up innings, it's not his function. He's there to get the tough lefties out. When he's giving up grand slams to players like Carl Crawford, he's not getting it done. All he's there for is lefties. If he can't get them out he's dead weight.

Clemens will not be a savior, this team has much bigger issues than starting pitching. There is no logical explanation how a team with this kind of lineup forgets how to hit. they make these no-name pitchers look like Sandy Koufax.

It really depends on who that manager is really. I could see someone like Joe Girardi who will not hesitate to get into someone's face as he is young and strong enough to knock most of those guys out. Not saying it should someone confrontational of course but someone who will take no garbage from anyone.

It all seems to point to Mattingly as the next manager, at least next year anyways and he even gets the seal of approval in Steinbrenner's last missive. Who knows if Mattingly is even management material. Would they dare put a hot head like Bowa temporarily??

Brian Cashman is the person who may lose his job first as he is the one who got full autonomy and signed a few duds.

I find the lack of offense from that lineup totally surprising as they just look dead. Jeter and Posada are still great but thats about it. Whatever happens they will have to deal with it with their current roster since there are many big contracts that will be impossible to get rid of.

The next four days may be it for Torre, Cashman..or both! If they get swept by the Jays or lose the series (or even swept!) by the Red Sox I think heads will surely roll. I could see maybe a few lower level guys like the hitting coach getting the ax though as some sort of a strong message and see what happens from there.

I can't see Girardi getting the job. Front office doesn't like him and he's played with many of the guys on the team. They will not respect him as a manager.

I'm a Sox fan for life; but, finally the Yankees realized their a baseball team and not a girls' softball team. I love these types of series.

Whew. Yankees win a close, great game. 2 out of 3 from Boston, but it may not mean much at this point.

The Red Sox don't exactly have the greatest lineup but you can see how they just play like a team and when guys like Youkilis hits an inside the park homer you just know things are going amazing for them.

And what do you think now?

I think its a long season and anything could happen. I mean look at my Mets. They f'n stink now and are playing like the Yanks did in late April/May. Its like a total reversal for both teams and it happened at the same time!!! Thats baseball..what a wacky game.

I do think the Red Sox has stronger starting pitching though outside of Okajima and Papelbon I don't care for their pen.

I think the Yankees will overtake the Red Sox and win the division.

Proctor is garbage.
He throws hard but that's not enough to get it done in this league.
Farnsworth is the same thing.

I don't know WTF Torre was thinking bringing in Proctor to starts the 9th.
I told my buddy that he was going to walk the leadoff man and they were gonna lose the game.
This trainwreck of a season rolls on...

Yaanks continue to win. They are now 20-7 or something ridiculous like that since the allstar break.
Only a half game back of the wildcard, and FIVE games behind Boston.
Oh, and the Chamberlain era has begun. :)
