Nice Tundra 😉

http://autoweek.com/cat_content.mv?port_code=autoweek&cat_code=carnews&loc_code=&content_code=02145850
The truck goes to market this fall, on the heels of Ford?s launch of the redesigned F-150. Toyota executives lauded the newest member of its family, which is 13-inches longer than the standard rig, as roomier than the forthcoming F-150 Super Crew. At 230.1-inches, the Tundra Double Cab is six inches longer than Ford?s comparable truck, with its 75.6-inch bed stretching a foot longer than Ford?s standard bed.

Toyota officials also touted interior comfort and roominess as a selling feature of its new rig. A key feature is a power-retractable rear-window, similar to the setup found on the Toyota?s full-sized Sequioa SUV.

Yeah baby! 😀

The extra foot of bed is especially nice since that's what usually takes a hit on crew cabs. I've been toying with the idea of getting something like this since I'm sick of shoehorning crap from Home Depot into my Altima every weekend.

Cool... the Toyota truck is very blah looking (no surprise)
on a 2nd note... i wonder what that new Impala SS will have under the hood...

If this truck was only available in 2000 when I purchased a GMC Sierra Extended Cab. The Tundra just did not have the necessary room to convince my wife we should buy the truck.

jeez, now i'm pissed. they're actually gonna put SS badges on that POS front wheel driving v6 powered hunk of junk called the Impala? This is an insult to the real impalas..

hear that truck guys. looks like we got another AMERICAN truck on our hands 😀
that's pretty sweet ... maybe now people who have always owned one of the big 3 will consider it.

I find the Tundra some what fugly, looks like my Corolla on steroids. 😛

It will probably perform on par with the 94-96 SS?s Depending on how many horses they can get the 3.8 to put out. Too bad they we didn?t get the one that Jon Moss put the LS1 in. 🙂

i thought they were already built in the US

anyway, they're going to make it too big to park.

They say the Tundra is roomier, and 6 inches longer than the 2004 F150 SuperCrew 5' bed. Then they say the Tundra bed is a 1' longer. That means the Tundra has 6" less cabin space, meaning its not roomier.

Id still take a F150 SuperCrew, except Id throw on the 8' bed instead of the 5', it isnt much more expensive.

which is just what the buyers of this behemoth want.. 😕

Its 6" longer than the 2004 F150 Supercrew 5' bed. Its not going to be to big to part. The 2004 F150 Supercrew 8' bed, now thats getting to the point its a bitch to park.

WTF are you talking about, its 6" longer than the 2004 F150 SuperCrew 5' bed. Its not exactly a behemoth, 6' bed, however 6" less cabin room.

the Tundra Double Cab is six inches longer than Ford?s comparable truck

with its 75.6-inch bed stretching a foot longer than Ford?s standard bed.

Now lets do the math, the bed is a foot longer than the F150 SuperCrew 5' bed, but the Tundra Double Cab is only 6"s longer than the F150 SuperCrew 5' bed, meaning its 6"s less interior room. I dont know how Toyota can claim its roomier and the cabin is more comfy. Now if they are comparing it to the 2003 SuperCrews, then it would be about the same. But they are comparing it to the July-August Launched 2004 F150 SuperCrew.

Saw this on the same site. looks like Chevy is going to try to get back some of the police car market. Too bad we have to wait till 2006. 🙂

Toyota needs to put that 5.4 in their 1/2 ton and stop foolin around, I'm sure they could do really well with a bigger displacement motor in the 1/2 ton's. Don't save that $hit for the bigger trucks (3/4 1 ton) that's a waste of time put it in the Crew Cab's. Anything above 1/2 ton should be Diesel only now with DI and VVT's available.

Maybe you need to check YOUR math😀 You do realize that there is more than just overall length and bed length. There is still the cabin length and windshield to front bumper length as well and the bumpers to take into consideration. The Tundra has a shorter frontal area than the F-150. It's engine bay isn't nearly as long as the 4.7 V8 is shorter than Ford's 5.4.

You can see from the pictures that the Tundra's cab is obviously longer than the F-150's.

Toyota wouldn't say that the cab is roomier if it wasn't. Auto manufacturers are VERY careful about that stuff.

So what they cut off 7"s from the front of the truck, compared to the F150 Supercrew, and have an inch more room than the F150 SuperCrew? If it has more room its very little. Ill wait till they give exact #s. They say nothing about interior dimensions other than its roomier. Its still not going to compete with Ford or GMC/Chevy.

I dont know what pictures you are looking at, but the cab doesnt look to be longer than the SuperCrew from the pictures Im looking at.

- The point is, all Tundras have less mass up front. The point from the base of the windshield to the tip of the front bumper is shorter on all Tundras.
- That coupled with the fact that the Cab is actually longer than the'04 F-150's
- Then the bed is longer as well

Like I said, they wouldn't say it's roomier if it wasn't. By roomier, they most likely mean more interior volume and more legroom for the rear passengers.

As for not looking longer than the F-150's cab, it does to me. The rear door look longer as well on the Double Cab:
