The above was a joke, and I was just kidding around.

It looks like Carter will probably stay with the Canucks now.

Apparently Clarke is shopping Gagne around, and Nonis is shopping Naslund and possibly Morrison as well.

Carter might stay? I hope so.

Naslund would certainly tug at my heart, but Morrison I can live with.

Well, let me just say that I probably took your post on the Sabres the wrong way, and for that I am sorry as well. For future reference, whenever I do a ':p' it's pretty much always in jest, and you probably shouldn't take what I just said seriously. As far as that last post, the whole 'annoying' bit got to me, so I snapped back.

With all misunderstandings aside, I did mean what I said about the Flyers. Their defense is so damned slow. But, I guess I'm just used to the Sabres' speed, so I may be way off on my assessment of the Pylons :p

 all around! (even though I hate the stuff)

:)

Oh, and I'd have to agree on the pylon comment... :D

I'm glad Boston finally got rid of it's pylon, AKA Hal Gill....thank you LEAFS! ;)

Sabres in for an expensive offseason

:)

They're definitely going to be paying more this season. A lot of their players were dirt-cheap. However, no single person really stood out so much that they deserve a significant salary. I believe we had only 1 player in the top 50 in scoring. Briere will likely have the largest salary, since he performed exceedingly well and had one of the highest points-per-game. He was on pace for a 99 point season had he not been injured. But, yes, I fear this offseason is going to be costly.

Agreed...I think Buffalo was one of the most balanced teams I've seen in many, many years. They could score on you from anywhere, and any line. They have so much speed their transition game was insane...

I've always like Lindy Ruff too...good old hockey guy.

Shanny goes to....the Czech national tea....err...the Rangers? Supposedly he turned down more lucrative offers from Detroit and Montreal...weird.

Shanny a Ranger?

This deal confuses me...

Wow, I'm surprised at that move! He obviously just wanted a fresh start somewhere. Maybe he didn't like the looming goaltending fiasco in Detroit.

He lives near Boston, too... so he will be somewhat closer to home. Still, pretty crazy. Now Jagr has another sniper to feed. :Q

edit: also, now Detroit will have enough cap room to offer Samsonov $$$

Reports are that Peca is in talks with the leafs. Hope that goes through for a LOT less then his previous contract (he said he's more interested in the location then money... we'll see), he didn't seem to want to comment on the situation with him and MacT either...
Well, with Peca, he was always sort of seen as a short-term player. He was effective in the post-season. In the regular season he was nothing more than a checking line type of guy, and he was expected to be much more. When he wasn't dealt before the trade deadline, he went in to K.Lowe's office and said he would make him glad that he wasn't dealt. I think he lived up to that promise. Now it is best for Peca's family to be near Toronto, but who knows if that will be seen. With Reasoner returning, Peca isn't really needed since Reasoner does all of the things that Peca does and is also well-liked in the dressing room.

Hemsky, Stoll and Horcs are all UFAs that just went to arbitration. You can't really blame them, though... Last year's salaries: Stoll, $500,000, Hemsky, $900,000, Horcoff $1 mil. They are all worth more, and hopefully Lowe can make them happy.

Lupul is working out a deal with without arbitration, which IMO is good for a new guy in the organization.

...

edit: yeah, also... about the endorsement thing - it is just a funny thing because you guys have talked hockey here long before myself... i am your guest here, in a sense :p i realize it is a joke anyway, and that's all i ever saw it as.

Melty, you have that high of an opinion of Reasoner? The short tiem the B's had him him didn't seem like anything special...of course, the whole team kinda sucked too.

He's an Oiler, so I'm somewhat biased. It's nice to have him back, for the same reason that it is sad to see Laraque go.

I doubt Marty was ever comfortable in Boston.

The Ottawa Senators have traded Martin Havlat and Bryan Smolinski to the Chicago Blackhawks in a three-way deal also involving the San Jose Sharks.

Chicago sent Mark Bell to the San Jose Sharks in exchange for Tom Priessing and Josh Hennessy, who the Blackhawks added to a package to land Havlat and Smolinski.

Along with Preissing and Hennessy, the Blackhawks sent prospect Michal Barinka and a 2008 second-round draft pick to Ottawa in exchange for Havlat and Smolinski.

Havlat, a restricted free agent who has been insisting on signing a one-year deal so he can test the unrestricted free agent market next summer, also signed a three-year deal with the Blackhawks worth $18 million US. He missed 58 games last season following shoulder surgery. However, he recorded 16 points in 18 regular season games before a superb playoff performance in which he tallied 13 points in 10 games, making him a hot commodity this summer.

The 25 year-old Czech winger has accumulated 235 points in 298 career games, all with the Senators.

Smolinski, 34, scored 48 points and had a plus-8 rating in 81 games last season. A versatile performer, Smolinski has 582 points in 910 career games with Ottawa, Los Angeles, New York Islanders, Detroit, Pittsburgh and Boston. Smolinski was originally a first-round pick of the Bruins in 1990.

Bell, 25, had a career-best 25 goals and 48 points in 82 games with the Blackhawks in 2005-2006. The 6-foot-4, 205-pound winger also plays a physical game, having registered more than 100 penalty minutes in each of his four full NHL seasons.

Preissing, 27, is an offensive defenceman who enjoyed a very productive 2005-2006 season, scoring 43 points and registering a plus-17 rating for the Sharks. Signed out of Colorado College in 2003, Preissing has 62 points in 143 career NHL games and is set to make $600,000 this year.

Hennessey is a 21 year-old prospect that the Sharks selected in the second round of the 2003 draft. He scored 63 points in 80 games with Cleveland of the American Hockey League last season, his first year as a pro.

Barinka, 22, was a second-round pick in 2003 and played 25 games with the Blackhawks last season, recording one assist and a minus-7 rating. The Czech-born defender has good size, at 6-foot-3 and 217 pounds, and produced 12 points in 54 games with Norfolk of the American Hockey League.

I think Mark Bell will fill in nicely on the line with Thornton and Cheechoo, but I'm going to miss Preissing's shot from the blue line on the PP.

I met Marty at a Blues' practice when he was a prospect back then.

He has talent, but no drive and can't stay on the puck. Of course, he's looking pretty good compared to some of the Blues forwards these days...

The Sabres resigned Brian Campbell to a 2 year deal. He'll make $1.25 million next year.

Damn. Not too often I read stuff here first :p Thanks

Oh well, I was hoping he'd resign for another season at least.

I guess the extra cap room isn't all that bad of a thing. Bye Sammy. I'll miss those beautiful drop-passes. :( To no one. :D
