The guy was at the police station, locked up in a small room with a cop when he decides it would be a good time to pull the knife he has hidden in his pants in order to kill the cop he is locked up with. Some people are just stupid. I hope the cops took him out back and killed him with his own knife.

Didn't think that was overly impressive, it was what I would have expected of any decent officer handling someone like that...they are trained to deal with situations like that...

The officers handcuffed the suspect and conducted a brief search before transporting him to Paignton police station.

It was in the tiny custody room, which measures just 4ft by 2ft, that PC Croft began to carry out a more thorough search. He removed the handcuffs, demanding that Lord place his hands on the counter.

While I give that officer a lot of credit for not getting stabbed, theres no reason why the knife should have been in that room, concealed under the suspect's clothing, in the first place. The article states there was a search done after he was cuffed before the incident in the video. The officer that performed the search could have easily caused the death of a fellow police officer or himself. If I were one of the other officers I'd not only be pissed at the mental subject but pissed at the officer as well. While thorough searches can be a pain in the ass, they save lives. If the officer had performed a thorough search back when the suspect was cuffed and not waited to do one after he uncuffed him, he probably would have found the knife. This officer was just lucky.

No, the knife falls out of his hand just a split second before he grabs it, though I'm not sure the officer wasn't trying to grab it in the first place.

what horrible execution of police procedures. That knife never should have gotten that far, and conducting a personal search in a confined space like that isn't that bright either. You could tell much of the time while he was fumbling with his cuffs and keys, that he wasn't paying full attention to the suspect. He's lucky he didn't pull the knife then.
