all my friends are either cops or trying desperately to get in. My friend said his dad made 130k last year as a cop with OT and court. That is unbelievable. I never imagined cops made so much... That's more than a lot of officials make.

Most cops don't. My father is a town cop and he makes about 45k/year after OT.

State cops make more.

Cops are definately overpaid.. if I could find out how to get in without them asking about past drug use I would probably be a cop.

State cops are who make the money, although it is very hard to become a state trooper.

Once you factor in bribes and stolen drug money, you are looking at pocketing a cool 185K per year.

;)

actually, bribes and drug money are tax-free so the amount is higher.

or did you figure that in to your calculation?

No they aren't. If anything, they are definitely underpaid.

yea ok, considering you could be a cop at age 18 w/o college or any education really for that matter... Get a career, benefits, tax exemptions etc... It's like winning the lotto.

I got some loser State Trooper around my neighborhood. His house is a dump.

Edit: At Edro, the fvck they aren't. They make way too much money and pensions are insane.

Would so many people want to be 'heroes' if it didn't pay good? No.

I believe most departments look for a degree now.

New Orleans cops are the lowest paid (~$24k?). But they make up for it with bribes/mafia kickbacks/drug resells to rival gangs after raids.

The crookedest cops in America.

How can you say they make to much. the guys in the field put their lives and their families future on the line every day they put the uniform on. All to protect YOU.

Of course Miami cops make so much. Haven't you seen 'Bad Boys' before--remember Will Smith's crib? How do you think he afforded that? That movie was a very accurate depiction of Miami PD and the struggles they face, IMHO.

protect me from what???? 4 cops pulled me over for a broken tail light... So safe. Most areas in miami are very safe nowdays. I called for a domestic despute and literally 6 cops came over. They never do anything unless 1/2 the dept. backs them up.

It seems like it would be a sweet job. Sitting in the car doing nothing for days on end would get boring though.

Err, lie about it?

I think they do lie-detector tests on you. That would be neat to grow a fat cop stash and get some reflective aviators though
