i was in my friend's car. i was in the passenger seat. he was going 50mph in a 35.

everything on ticket is correct except race. it says White Caucasian (Non-Hispanic). He's asian.

friend is going to court to fight it.

i say it's not worth your time. you're going to be there all day. pay the $75 fine + $50 court costs since you were speeding.

he only has one speeding tix on his record, and that was from 2yrs ago for going 80 in a 65.

i think he's wasting his time.

What do you think?

What is there to fight? On all the tickets I've ever received there is no check box for "asian".

I always plead not guilty and go to court no matter what the ticket.

yeah, it makes no difference. if he was fired for that, someone should be fired for firing him.

And I thought they were the worst drivers of all :p

It's assumed you are asian unless the officer checks a different box.

No its not grounds for dismissal. You can try to get it thrown out but I dont think your friend has a chance in hell. Pay the ticket and stop speeding.

What does STFU have to do with the situation? You are telling him the obvious - to pay the ticket or go to court. Then you add in STFU. Why?

I simply don't understand the point of your post. If someone was explaining a dilemma they are having regarding either putting a pet down or paying for a costly medical procedure, would your advice be "STFU and put the dog down, or STFU and do the procedure"?

Why the hell would you get a lawyer to fight a speeding ticket?

Oh, and no. He's not going to get it dismissed because he's not white. Man, that's the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

ZERO chance of getting it kicked. There's no way to guarantee ethnicity and telling the different between white with a tan or asian or hispanic is impossible on a traffic stop. Tell your friend to stop being a whiny little priss and pay the ticket. While he's at it he can stop being a whiny little priss and LEARN TO DRIVE.

Because if the cop doesn't show up, the ticket gets dismissed.

Or STFY and defend yourself, as you're legally allowed to do. In which case you'd lose, since the legal system is a scam.

Same here. I've had one ticket dismissed, one ticket reduced to a non-moving violation (no points on my record), and one that I've had to own up to.

I'm 2 for 2

1 dismissed outright.. 1 dismissed because the officer had no way he could prove I was speeding*somewhat long story, no radar*

The other 2, the cop was there & had me on Radar, I just pled in court + paid the fine and traffic school.

How has this strategy worked out for you?
I've never been convicted of the initial violation I was cited for.

what?! WHY waste your time if your guilty?!!??!
Um... Why would anyone breaking the law NOT exercise their right to a day in court?

The whole idea is that either the cop won't show up or you can deal with the DA before you go before the judge and get a reduced charge. Less points on a license, if you get any at all, will save you a lot of money in the long run.
