For those that only had the Khypermedia available in thier area:
Better, shorter link.

The dates on the rebate vary by location, but most seem to be as far as mid September.

$89.98+tax (if applicable)+free shipping-$50 MIR=$39.98+tax on $89.98+postage for the rebate.

Edit: more reliable link.

I got one and it says the manufacturer is TOP-G and made in China. I haven't tried burning anything but it is very quiet and smooth running. It plays DVD moving ok.

Microadvantage = rebadged BTC drives.
You might want to wait until tomorrow to see drives will be on-sale in next week's OM's ad.

I missed the MadDog deal a few weeks ago (rebadged NEC if I remember correctly). What other models have been on sale lately in the sub $50 range that have been really good? Was the KyperMedia drive of last weeks sale a descent drive? What's a good site for additional reading?

videohelp.com and cdfreaks.com are good sources for info. The Khypermedia is either a Cyberdrive or a BenQ depending on where it's made. The Khypermedia deal was for $10 more.

Cool, thanks!
These BTC drives are one of the best rated you can get.
Reviews have them as good or better than LiteOn 811, Toshiba and TDK

BTC drive are just average and not better than a LiteOn and TDK burners are over priced rebadged drives, but if you want to buy one be sure to use a Officemax coupon because $40 a 8x DVD burner is to much ot pay.

Do any of the <$80 DVD burners support HD-burn for CD's? (For those that don't know, this burns 1.4 GB to a normal CD-R.)
