Basically the 48x deal has become much better, becuase my local store here is out of 48x, and they are substituting the $99.99 52x CDRW in place of the 48x... and all the rebates are still valid !

If you buy the cendyne and other stuff in store, you can't use the online $25 off $100 coupon and get everything for free, including the cendyne.

You CAN'T because the coupon is for on-line use only. There currently aren't any in-store coupons.

OM takes competitor's coupons. Bring a $10 off $40 from somewhere, and get the drive for $9.99 AR.

Just be polite, I believe OM has a list of 'replace' items, in case the advertised items are all OOS. Talking to the manager would help. I was ab;le to ge tthe C-4000 in place of D-550 last week !

So I know it is YMMV, but within reach of anybody as long as you are cool with the CSR / Manager

I haven't been into my store yet this week, but I wouldn't be surprised if the 52x was the sub. I'll come back and let you know in a couple of days, if not tomorrow.

It really depends on the management at the store if they want to give the sub or just tell you they're out. My managers are all about customer service and repeat business, so we give out the substitute everytime and usually we even let you use internet coupons in store.

Like someone else said, YMMV, but be nice and you might get it. If you get pissed off or try to do quite a bit of dealing, we probably won't give it to you.

Example: Guy comes in trying to use expired coupons and internet coupons on ~$200 sale if memory serves me correctly. We deny the expired ones because we'd get a nasty e-mail from corporate. We let him use the internet one, then he proceeds to try to wheel and deal with my manager. Finally the guy says "Come on man! I buy a lot of things at OfficeMax!" and my manager says, with a straight face, "Do you know what you're saying? Here, listen to this. I walk into a McDonalds, order 5 value meals, then I tell the cashier, 'Hey babe, can you make one of those free, I buy a lot of stuff here.'"

The guy quit trying to deal, just paid for the stuff, and walked out. After he left I burst into laughter, but my manager just cracked a little smile.

YMMV on Office Max retail stores accepting competitor's coupons. The manager at one of my local OMs gave me heck about using an OfficeDepot coupon last time I was in there - he let me use it but told me to never bring one in again, and said that it is definitely on a store-by-store basis. Needless to say, that was my last "in-store" purchase - online is much easier!

Easier than that - there's an OM 10 off 50 in-store that's been mailed within the past week in some markets.

I don't think they will be substituting the 52x at the OM I went to, they had 15 left of the 48x. Of the 48x, one had a model# of CW4802 and the others were 4816P.

If it's a 48X I believe that you can flash it into a 52X anywho.
Plus, Cendyne rebates aren't tracking too well in the rebate thread... they're quite slow.
