I posted this in the "applications" forum and it was quickly drowned out by everyone talking about their video games so I thought I would post it here....
I work for the technology department of a college and we have been discussing upgrading only a handfull of machines to Office XP as we prepare to migrate the whole school to it early next year.
I have a few concerns regarding partial implimentation of Outlook 2002 across campus while leaving most other users in 2000. One major concern is primarily associated with file (in)compatability. If we move the labs and a few computers to 2002 (XP) we are likely to end up with the creation of files by students in the lab with 2002 features that do not come through once they are handed in to faculty with 2000 version. Students might well not know what features are lost in the 2002 -> 2000 conversion. In addition, students will be unable to share course presentations created in the lab, in class using faculty equipment with 2000. This will over-tax an already maxed out use of limited laptop computers from our department that would be running Office XP, and may make classroom presentations more difficult for us to support.
Here are my real questions:
1. Does anyone know of any specific tech-docs from Microsoft (or elsewhere) that will help get us a better understanding of potential incompatibilities with Office 2000? That alone would be extremly usefull, I did search the Office XP page and was not able to find any specific information.
2. Have any of the IT professionals here who have gone through a Office migration had any problems, and if so what were the problems that you had?
3. Does anyone have any other imput as to the general compatability between Office 2000 and XP.
Any help appreciated.
