Office XP install "Experience"....Help please.....

It was an experience all right. I went to a Microsoft Direct Access event last night and they handed out Demo CD's for SQL 2000 and Office XP (what I got was the Office Professional with FrontPage Corporate Preview Beta, Build 2511.3 January 2001). From the presentation I saw I was really looking forward to installing and playing with the thing.

Log into Administrator profile. Put it in the computer and it begins to install. Up pops a box where you put in username, initials, organization and that 25 character code. I TRIED... it wouldn't let me. So, I left the codes field blank and clicked Next and bam, it pushed through the install. It just tells me its done and doesn't ask to reboot or anything (I have anyways, just in case). Now when I go to click on the Outlook icon, or any other office icon for that matter, the thing hits the registration point again, except this time it won't take the code AND it won't just step through. Did they put a bad code on the CD sleeve that the thing came in? I tried this at home but my company is really going to want to look at this thing in the office. My "Experience" with this thing so far hasn't been the best :| . Anybody have ANY suggestions? This registration process is driving me nuts, and I haven't even hit the "wizard" or whatever else is in there. Oh, and before you tell me that I didn't do my cd key right I don't know what to tell you. If there is another combination for my key that I haven't tried (uppercase, lowercase, combinations. HMMMMM I forgot to try in reverse 🙂 ) then I don't know what to tell you.

Any ideas at ALL? I have no idea where to start.

The registration code isn't the same as your product key. You must get the regestration key from Microsoft.

?

The 25 number/letter code that I am referring to is the one on the sticker (like all Office products that I have seen before) and has 5 groups of five letters/numbers in any different combination.

When I installed the thing I didn't get to any registration section where it would go online or ask me what I wanted to do (phone or internet from what I hear). It just finished and did nothing. I rebooted and then tried to run the program but it says it hasn't been registered, brings up a registration window then the software won't accept the code on the sticker and thats it. I have to cancel and get back out. Anybody seen this before? Workaround for this?
