My friend works in an office 10+ hours a day but isn't allowed to change the office chairs. So can anyone recommend a good back pillow? Would it even make a difference?

Have him explain to his manager that a high quality chair (even one of those excessively fancy $1,000 ones) is much, MUCH cheaper than having him out for a few weeks on medical disability due to a back injury.

Have your friend bring a note signed by his doctor regarding his back and have him push the 'reasonable accommodations' button.

This is the stupidest thing I have read today. Explain.

Im not entirely sure, its an on site job for some consulting company and shes not in her HQ's office. I don't know, all I know is she works a lot and is complaining of back pain.

Has she complained to a doctor?
Has said doctor recommended some seating change?
Has this been documented?

if not... tell her to stfu.

haha ok, this was more of a thread to see what I could get her as a gift, but I guess I should consider telling her to stfu.

the point of my post was to point out that there ARE options for her..

OSHA does have rules over seating..

http://www.osha.gov/SLTC/etools/computerworkstations/components_chair.html

someone should not need to resort to buying a pillow... if she's doing a job, the company is responsible for making her time there less painful.

but they can't do that if they don't know about it... and it needs to be medically documented.

but then again she could just be whining ... hence the stfu note.

Lower back pain is often associated with weak stomach muscles. Take her to the gym.

She needs to simply ask for a better chair BEFORE going and getting a doctor's note. Don't be one of 'those' employees.

....and all the people crying osha over an uncomfy chair... rofl... I'm so glad to be in a right to hire/fire state.
