Does anyone notice an improvement in the video quality of the movie on the new disk?? I own the original that was released years ago. I find many of the early scenes to not be that great in video quality (granted I am blowing the movie up to 125 inches). I don't care for 'extras' on a dvd, so the only reason I would buy this disk would be to see a better picture.

i'd buy it if it did ;)
For $22 you get the Red Swingline and other paraphenalia along with the DVD. BB has it.

I'm pretty sure the stapler is a cheap knockoff. I read a review saying most of the extra stuff is worthless crap.

I got this set from BB (BB Exclusive) the stapler is not an actual swingler but its still a very cool set to have. I am happy with it. And for $22 its not a bad deal at all

The biggest visual difference between the new release and the old is that the new release is anamorphic.

It usually is, ie cheap reprint of first spiderman comic that falls apart came with Spiderman collector's edition, cheap overly fake looking rubber cover of Necronomicon with Special Edition BC vs Army of darkness...

The new release is anamorphic which is a big difference. The old version was 1.85:1 letterbox which means that the black bars were hard coded on the old version. The anamorphic version means that there are black bars on 4:3 tvs, but the black bars are not hard coded, so all 480 lines of resolution can be used for the picture instead of just 272.

anamorphic vs. letterbox

I have a widescreen tv, so this shouldn't make a difference??

that's the reason why i did not buy the older version, because it was letterboxed. so, even with an anamorphic transfer, it still looks like the letterbox visually?

The new release is an all new transfer with (extremely) noticably improved video quality.

Agreed. Anamorphic alone would make a good difference. Combine that with new transfer = goodness.

Yeah, I really wished that had wrapped the Army of Darkness SE DVD in real human skin..
