I need to replace office 2000 (Trying to convince the government entity I work for (900 Workstations, 27 Servers) to use Linux instead of MS OS's.... I tried importing a few xls files into kspread and a couple wierd things happened (Nothing major that couldn't be fixed in seconds, but stuff none the less. Is there anything that will suit my needs, can someone please point me in the right direction.

OH, as an aside, can anyone tell me what the replacement for excel's "vlookup" is in KSpread?? Thanks much.

What he said I have Star Office 6.0 beta and it rocks! I have opened ms exell spread sheets and word documents with it.

Is the Star Office 6.0 beta for Linux still available for download anywhere? I know it's no longer available from Sun's site...

not legally
Sun plans on charging for staroffice 6 when it released later this year. open office will always be free. it pretty much staroffice w/o java and the database.

get it here.

its nice that it runs on windows and unix

Quaggoth I know you can not be serious about converting over entirely to linux. I'm very new to linux just started learning it. Microsoft has its place just as linux does why would I want to move people over to linux who are not very technical for example people who do clarical work are use to excel; they are use to checking e-mail with outlook. This move would most likely end up costing more money in the end well lets see. I'll have to retrain the entire helpdesk support staff than I'll have to spend more money and train the clarical help. Oh and lets not forget those linux system administrators that you will have to hire we have some redhat certified sys admins at work and they don't come cheap. Now lets look at the company website now that we are running apache we will have to have our web developers start programming in php now what about our database well the database admins will have to convert all that data over to postgrace or mysql.

StarOffice 6.0 is your friend and it's compatable with 97/2000/ and XP docs and excel sheets from what I have seen and heard about it. Here's a link that you might find useful as it seems Linux is gaining wide acceptance in a LOT of places.
