Office PC Specs, what do you think?

An uncle of mine just called me up and asked me if I'd build him a pc to use in the office. Of course, I said I would. I'd really appreciate some input though. All the pc will really be used for is sales work (excel, outlook, word, other non-intensive applications) and internet browsing. I'm thinking p4, simply because they are usually more quiet. However, I could go XP. What I really need advice on is the motherboard though. I've never built a p4 system, so I'm not sure what to go with. It would be nice if it had onboard video/sound/network abilities as well. If anyone would give me a little advice, I'd appreciate it.

I have windows 98 up there because he specifically requested it. I know I can get the CRT monitor cheaper somewhere else, I just need to look. I don't know about the LCD monitor however. Anyone know a good place to get them?

go with a nice AMD XP like a 1600+ (retail of course cause super cooling isnt necessary) and a Nforce board! has everything you need and then all you need is HD memory, and cd-rom or dvd-rom, and a cheap enermax case w/ 300w ps and monitor! total is like

(guestimate no price looking up) 600.00 and you got yourself a cheap office computer

I'm kinda leaning toward an XP now, just cause it ends up being significantly cheaper. Anyone have any expericne with the ASUS A7N266-VM? Word around the web seems to be positive.

It is standard ATX, and is has onboard lan, video, and audio.

do it! just share the profit(if any) with me! im a poor kid! need money to support my (son to be)new best friend CRW-F1!! w/ disct@2

Go with XP and knock off the LCD and get a CRT. You won't like that KDS LCD after looking at a few others along a row to compare it by. If you want an LCD, go for a good one. Not an el cheapo.

i'd bust out with:
CPU: Duron - $40
MOBO: Asus A7N266-VM - $81
RAM: Kingsotn 256 PC 133 - $40
HARD DRIVE: 40 GIG WD - $74
Case: Enlight 7238 $41
Cd Drive: Sony 52x max $30
Keyboard: Standard $9.50
Mouse: Standard $11
LCD Monitor: KDS 15" RAD 5C $344
OS and OFFIce Stuff can be had for very little money 😉

670.50 ...

My uncle, the guy I'm building the pc for, wants both a crt and an lcd. Problem is, I know nothing about lcd monitors. So I guess I have some research to do in that department. Thanks for the heads up on the hot deal though.
