Original closeout price was $59

NOW=$29

These are the IO Magic 8X DVD drives. The are actually 8X Pioneer drives

This is at the Office Max B&M
SKU: 14258331

All three drives I bought were Pioneer DVD114

i need one! if anyone can get an extra, ill pay for shipping. ill check the ones around me but they always have pure crap there.

sku?

Rebadged pioneers? Not most of them.

The majority of them are Afreey 8x DVD drives, and AFAIK, the pioneers are the 10x substitutes.

OM deserves to really go down hard.
I have never dealt with such a screwed up company.
Has any tried to make a call to their local store and have a friendly salesperson walk over and take a look on a shelf for an item. Seemingly simple task... not a lot to ask.
Forget about it!

What a joke. Like I have time to run around and go to all of my local Office Max stores and look on a damn shelf. MAN... I'm p.o.'d.

I hope they fall hard. They have no business being in retail.

IN the meantime... can anyone get a sku# on this?
Thanks.

My local stores seem to be pretty well stocked .... so If I find extra's I'll post.

You can run them solo if you have say a pentium III 500 or so. I personally can see a difference even on a Pent III 600, so I always use a decoder whenever I can.
But you will be happy without, if you have a fast processor.

Hey Cyberdolphin, OM isn't the only one like this. Have you ever tried to call a compusa in new york. They have a Customer Service line that directs you to some obscure location and they won't allow you to talk to anyone in your local store. The reason behind these supposed schemes is efficiency. I think it would be more efficient if some of those workers could just go look at the shelf rather than having me drive to the actual store to look at item.

Thanks for the SKU

I might be finding out how usable software decoding is on a K6-2/500. I setup a few systems at work that had creative drives, k6-2/500's, and xpert128 cards using ATI's software decoder and it was quite decent. I don't know if ATI's cards have anything that helped speed it up, but I think its all software. This application, however, would be using crappy integrated video on a different system. Any thoughts?

When you buy something from compusa the stores the real phone number is on the receipt(at least it is where Im at). You should get an actual human answering the phone!! I am guessing that they are instructed not to go and do a physical check on merchandice.

For $29 it would be a good back-up.
Install it for your friends, most consumers
see "DVD" and think it's such a great upgrade!😉
I haven't actually seen much software on DVD yet.

If it is a Pioneer 8x rebadged, it is RPC-2 locked which has hardware region lock and there is no solution to make it region free yet.

How do you tell if they are a pioneer? Is there a Pioneer sticker on the drive, or is there a program that'll tell me?

Just ran down to the Davis OM. No luck. Also had them check their computers for all stores in districts 30 and 40, 1 in Vacaville and 1 in Roseville. Had them call Roseville but they can't find it. I'm guessing they're all out.
