Well... our office consolidated from 2 floors to 1 last week. We used to be spread out between the 10th and 11th floor but now we're all one big happy family on one floor.

The floor plan was redone. So pretty much everyone has new cubicle 'mates' (I share mine with the IT lady).

So here I am realizing what life is going to be like for me here at work. I'm one of those workers that just comes in, pops the earbuds in, and works pretty much in solitary fashion. I don't really need to interact with anyone here per se considering my manager works 8 hours away in Ottawa.

Only now, I can't even hear myself think.

To the right I have the Morning Shriekers - 2 ladies and 1 guy that gather together every morning to pretty much shriek and laugh raucously at whatever the hell they're talking about.

To my left and on the other side of a cheap 2" thick partition is the gabbiest person in the office. Every morning, one or more people gather there and either whisper office trash talk or laugh impossibly loud and fake about the lives of other office workers.

Anyway... this is a weak rant but when you're not a morning person, loud and/or annoying office folk suck.

you're right. at least i'm not stuck next to the guy that rips loud farts all day.

never seen anyone completely oblivious to the loudness of his own farts like this guy.

he also happens to be the guy that wipes snot all over the interiors of the company cars.
 
Crank up the volume on the headphones I guess ... that sucks. I have an office, but I still need to wear the headphones and play some loud music keep my neighbours inane prattle out of my head.

I feel pretty fortunate though ... in an old programming job, I shared a room with 4 others, one of whom, although positively brilliant (a true-life nuclear physicist), was a complete social miscreant. He, as the fellow Melty mentioned, was oblivious to his own gas, and would lean and grunt when popping them out. Not to mention his rants and raves to himself. Same suit & shirt every single day for the year I worked there ... crazy orange, balding hair that was never washed, and glasses I was surprised he could even see out of they were so thick and so dirty. That was when I learned headphones at work were my friend.
 
why do some people shriek like banshees when they laugh?

and why do people push their laughs so hard?

it's noticeably fake. wow! this is awesome.

i need louder earbuds
 
Get them to pump white noise into the area.

I found it amazing how well it works... we use it in our call centers.

It sounds like static, but after a few minutes you don't even notice it anymore.

I'm not sure of the theory behind it though.... I never bothered to look into it.
