WTF is abusive or threatening about calling the corporate HQ?
Oooh, scary.

When I worked in retail and someone made a similar "threat," I took the liberty of providing them with the appropriate number.

Of course, I didn't try to scam my own customers

i personally have no problem with employees lying to keeps the bargains to themselfs, that's just how a lot of people are, I'd do the same thing if i was in their shoes, but the lying should've have been done over the phone. you don't tell someone it's instock, we'll put your name on it and then try to lie after the customer is there to pick it up. that's just dumb.

it's just like missing a deal when you go shopping, if a customer already has dibs on something, let it go, you missed it. if you're a manager and you got wind of a clearence, transfer your inventory so when people call, you're out of stock.

but yea, I'm glad you got your cameras. and taking the second one is a good move too. imagine that, if he only gave you the single camera you wanted, he could've walked home with 1 too.

Wow, I just went thru a bunch of crap...I order the Canon online and opted for store pick up...went into the store and they said they would not honor the $20 coupon unless I had proof if it...they said if I got it form some deals forum online then they would not honor it.

Anhow to make a long story short I wont be shopping at OD again.

She even said that if I had ordered it online and had it mailed to me that the UPS driver would have asked for the coupon as well.

This was the assistant manager of OD BTW.

Is this true or what guys? Frankly this is my first time buying from OD online.

Hey Pliablemoose,

As a retail worker at one of OD's competitors I think you handled it fine; in fact, you handled it in the only way that could have possibly turned out in your favour. Sometimes you have to threaten to raise a fuss before you get things done - and I can guarantee that store policy at OD is that the product is there for purchase by customers first, employees second. Good for you for calling their bluff.

Just FYI to everyone in general, not all retail employees pull this crap! I admit that I've gotten in on more than my share of deals while working at my particular job, but never has anyone I know taken a product and put it aside for ourselves when it had already been promised to a customer. I mean, WTF? What if the guy drove 50 km+ or something specifically for that promotion? I'd raise hell too and likely expect at least a gift card for my trouble.

i read the whole thread, and quite honestly, you could have been much more of an ass if you wanted to, but i think you dealt with it in a fashionable manner. I work for Kmart and deal with assholes everyday. The second they utter or mumble the word "corporate", we kiss their ass and do whatever they require. If they call corporate on us, we get screwed as a store, as well as the store manager's bonus. Just an FYI to anybody who doesn't work retail who may not know this: if you treat the CSR or employee helping you with respect and don't blow up on them, 9 times out of 10 they'll be willing to help you. If you come off as a jerk off or bitch, i couldn't give two shits what happens to you, and i'm willing to bet that's how most other people feel too.

...OD like Staples have their own delivery trucks so they can ask for the coupon. All my on line purchases were delivered by OD trucks.

So then its standard for them to pick up the coupon upon delivery?

How in the heck can they run the full transaction on the website, charge your card THEN deliver it and expect a coupon!

This is essentially what the store manager told me. I had fully completed the online transaction the just opted for a store pick up rather then delivery just so I could have it that day...cost would have been the same.

I'll never shop at OD again after this ordeal, I got treated like crap too, the bit@h is lucky I have something to live for besides getting a good deal on a printer. ;D

She was the assistant MGR btw , if this is not OD policy then perhaps I should compalin to someone else? Although I doubt it would do any good and frankly I dont even want the printer anymore.

I have heard of many Office Depots asking for coupons you've used online.

To be fair, I love my local Office Depot, they've never asked me for a coupon I used online or ever given me a moment's problem.

Don't blame them, they were simply giving into their natural, money-oriented ways. If you had started flashing the gold-pressed Latinum they would have sold you the cameras in a snap. :p

That about sums it up for me too. It's interesting you've had a few calls into other "corporates" before... I guess you've got a hard on for trouble. ;) Maybe they know your name at your local Staples because they know who you *really* are and that you command *special* attention.
