Did you buy it? I put one on hold for when I get off work. Will confirm for the Bay Area in a couple of hours.

I purchased this laptop last Friday @ Office Depot and the Mobility Radeon 9600 has been runnning great so far on the WoW beta. Definately a significant difference vs my Compaq X1000 which has a Mobility Radeon 9200. From what I've read the new Mobility Radeon x800 kicks serious butt, however it also sucks a lot of power. There is probably a 20% difference between the Mobility Radeon 9700 and the 9600.

Most Office Depots only have display models for sale and be sure to ask a discount for purchasing a non-boxed item. Mine was missing CD-ROMs and AC Adapter, however the manager threw in a Targus Home/Air/Car adapter and lowered the price to $700 + tax.

I purchased mine at Oaklawn in Dallas (new). There are still new ones in Mesquite and Plano, plus displays at many stores. On manager offered to have one shipped in to his store, but I decided to deive the 20 miles so I could get it today.

I posted about this on 8/17, but there was not much interest in it. I got one and think it is a hot deal. This is one fast lappy.

It's a good laptop; I am trying to decide between this ($1075 or so after tax) and an Acer 2012wlmi ($1260 after delivery). The Acer is 1.5 (vs. 1.4) and has a Radeon 9700 (vs. 9600), and has a DVDRW (vs a CDRW/DVD), but otherwise they're very, very similar.

Do you know of any place that actually has the 2012 in stock? It's sold out every where I've looked. I have a 2012 but am searching for one for a friend.

"an Intel Pentium M CPU (with 1 full GB of Level 2 cache)"

WOW! Must be a new revision of Dothan with a core the size of a pizza box :)

1MB of cache means Banias. Still a decent price but the Dothan core really is superior performance-wise.

Yeah, The one in Mountain View, South San Jose, both have them in stock. There was also one in San Jose, but I scooped it up for $850. Best deal of the three.

So different CDWs have different pricing on this? It isn't $1299 everywhere, for the Acer 2012WLMI?

hello,
i just grabbed this notebook at OD. got the display model since its the only one left. got home, reformatted, but i can't seem to get the dvd player to work. system hardware shows a Matshita CW-8122, but i can't seem to find a driver anywhere. the driver currently being used right now is some generic XP driver. does anyone else having this same problem? any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

I bought the display at my local OD yesterday. Got everything it originally came with, including the box for $800. This thing is fast!

anyone that bought this m505 and can watch dvd's, can you look in your 'hardware manager' under cdrw/dvd, can you see what model # is your drive and what driver version you are using? my drive is not working for some reason, but my cd is and gateway's tech support is soooooooooooooooooooooooo horrible. they won't help me cuz they said my serial number is incorrect when i've checked and checked and even used their 'find my serial #' system on their website. please help!

would you mind clicking on the 'driver' tab under device manager and let me know what driver you are currently using? im running xp's 5.1.2535.0 with a date of 7/1/2001 and its not working. cd seems to work fine, just no dvd.

thanks
