Office '97 with Windows XP......

Is it possible? Any oddities if it is possible that I should know about. I can't find any helpfull information on Microsofts web site (go figure).

The only reason I ask is because I plan on building a new system and want Windows XP pro but can't afford the $270 for Office XP Professional, and I can't use Office XP Small Business because I need PowerPoint. '97 still works good enough for me, but it will take me some time to afford an upgrade to Office XP Pro.

Thanks, I've built a few XP boxes and have run into some problems with software compatibilty, Like Norton anything non 2002, and older versions of Lotus. But I haven't tried any older MS products.

MS Office 97 will run fine on Windows XP.
You might want to supplement it with OpenOffice 1.01 (Free!), because it support a greater number of file format. Incompatibility is a boon on Office 97 ? there are bug fixes for Office 97 to read most other MS Office format, but you are up to your own when try to read other file format such as Lotus or Word perfect format.

Norton is a whole other story completly, since some of its software operates at a low level. Utility software usually needs to be upgraded with the OS, since things that it used before might not work, or be unsafe, in the new OS.

I have read something about outlook express and the spell checker. There is a patch for it. I remember someone posting about this 8-10 months ago.

Semper Fi

Edit/ I just searched the forums and microsoft I can't find anything now.
