I've kept a desktop and laptop running for the past 8 plus years and finally upgraded to two new Dell units. On the old units I have been using Microsoft Works that came with the old pc's. Using the new pc's there will probably (haven't turned the new ones on yet) be loaded Microsoft 365 or whatever version Dell loaded on the new machines.
I rarely use the software for word docs. etc. I do use the crude Excel for spread sheets I created for personal reasons, etc. Seems lime the natural thing to do is just migrate to MS 365 and hope the old files will work there. What about the Google software?? Will my Excel and word doc. files work in the Google software? Also, using Google, can i save my files on a usb and other media. I've never used any cloud based software and everything I do now is going to be a learning experience. Any ad all help you can give me is needed!! LOLOL
Thanks

I can't answer your questions with regard to Google Docs, though another option to consider is LibreOffice. It will read your old Works documents as well as Word/Excel/PowerPoint docs, and it's free. www.libreoffice.org

I'd suggest going for version 5.3.7.

I'm against all "cloud" computing that can be done on your own machine. You're giving control, privacy, and security over to corporations, and they can decide at any time they don't feel like doing it anymore, and take away your toys.

I second libreoffice. I use it at home and work. We have more libreoffice machines at work than msoffice, and everyone gets on fine with it.

If they come with a free subscription to 365 use it and enjoy the features. Although I have different versions of office including 365 I have used the clone suites and they never provided me with the same level of satisfaction as office does.
