I have 2 new computers being loaded and on both I have this problem with installing Office 2K Premium:
Both are Duron 800s on Soyo 7VTA-Bs with 128MB PC133 @100MHz. Both are using Win98SE. One has a 6 Gig ATA33 HD, the other a 20G IBM 75GP HD.
After install of 98SE and the VIA MB drivers, I install Office 2K. It goes through the installer load, serial# stuff and then starts "Office 2K is being configured ..." . The progress bar starts up and gets to about a third of the way AFTER 45 MINUTES. Then I get a window saying that the installer has quit responding.
I've done 3 Windows re-installs, switched out the RAM, tried to install it after the drivers/before the drivers, but still get the same result. The CPU temps have never gone over 95 deg F. I've successfully installed this program previously on 4 identically spec'd computers.
What am I missing ???
