Office 2007 vs Office 2010 for language translation

Hi everyone, I'm currently running Office 2007. I mainly use Word and Outlook. I use Outlook 2007 a lot. And I have to translate Russian language to English language - a ton! I am wondering if I upgraded to Outlook 2010 would the translation software be better and or have more translation programs available.

Does anyone else here do a lot of translating in Outlook and Word? Could you advise me? Thanks for any help.

I can't help with your specific question, only to say that it's an odd time to consider an "upgrade" to software that is almost 7 years old. And I will caution you of buying something like this off an e-seller at a "discount price." There is just too much question over the legitimacy of such software, and you are in the era will MS will not activate unless it is sure that the software is legit.

If you are going to upgrade, get the latest version.

Oh thank you so much for your advice. Well I'm on a budget, I wonder if I could, say, step down from 365 to 2013 or 2016 could I save a little money yet still improve my translation capabilities? Hmmmm, thanks for your help.

I do some translation, and only use a word processor for putting my work on paper or in files for dissemination. Microsoft Office does none of the real work. That is what I do. All versions of Office from 2007 on are about the same when it comes to foreign language texting, diacriticals, etc. I use 2010 and it does every thing I need. Outlook is something I never use

I don't really know, but I assumed the OP is thinking in terms of "add-ins" for Word, but I've never used standalone translation software of any kind, so I can't speak to that at all, much less any that have plug-ins to interface directly with Word.

And since I still mostly use Word 2007 myself, I have no idea if there are significant differences between it and Word 2010 as far as add-in functionality with respect to text processing is concerned. I kind of tend to doubt it, since it's not a very complex task, but don't actually know that. Since it was long since discontinued, I don't know if there's still an easily found spec sheet or detailed sales brochure for Office or Word 2010 on Microsoft's website, but if there is, presumably that would highlight any significant changes or "upgrades" from Office 2007...

I'm curious, exactly what features of Office programs are you looking for as "translation aids"?

I would like to be able to copy and paste entire documents or at least pages, in Russian, Dutch, and Romanian etc, and have them converted/translated into English. What word and outlook have now integrated is lame.... font is very small and on the side.

In contrast, I can take a pull page of Russian from outlook or word and copy/paste it into Google Translate, and it works well. However, I'd like to streamline the process by doing this in Word or Outlook..... Outlook would be nice because all that I need to translate is sent to me by email. If not Word is good too, if they had this feature......

I seriously doubt Miscrosoft itself will ever give away "really good" translation software for free, but I suspect that at least some standalone programs have add-ins to integrate them, at least to some extent, into MS Office, or at least Word...

PS: Google seems to want you to sign in just to see their "Translator Toolkit" and I don't have an active Google account, but you might want to check that out and see if there's anything useful there. It's by no means perfect, but for at least some languages (and Russian seems to be one of those), Google Translate does a pretty good job, at least in terms of a "rough translation" that doesn't need a massive amount of clean-up... There's a link to that at the bottom of the basic Google Translate page...

ETA: Meh. Judging by this Wikipedia page at least, it looks like Google's "Translator Toolkit" is - not really surprisingly - entirely web-based, so not a likely candidate for direct integration with MS Office programs...
