I have had Office 2007 for 2 years now. I got a MS updates the other day and I opened up outlook today and it started going through a configuration deal. Then it went to and install and then it says outlook has not been installed for current user. Please run setup etc.
What the heck happened?

Have you recently downloaded and installed the Windows Live Essentials suite? It includes Microsoft Office Outlook Connector and may be the cause.

Microsoft has recently come out with OGA (Office Genuine Advantage) validation. It checks if your copy is legit. Have you downloaded and installed it? It may be seeing your copy of office as counterfeit.

It had to do with the UAC which I had turned off when I first installed Vista. I turned it back on and I found out that is what is causing the problem. I shut it off and it works fine now. It better not be a counterfeit office as I paid good money for it.
