however the send-a-message screen follows the new stylings, which in reality is the only place you'd really need it in Outlook.
That's because Outlook uses Word for the email editor, and that is the only option. There is no crappy built in email editor anymore.

I installed it yesterday and as a long time office user I really like it. Graphically it's very neat and the features continue to improve.

Now does anyone know how I can get my mail and stuff from Thunderbird into Outlook? It was easy enough to go the opposite direction 2 years ago, but I don't see a way in outlook to import from my profile nor do I see a way in thunderbird to export. Am I missing something?

Is it just me, or does search/find in outlook just plain not work now? I downloaded the Desktop Search 3.0 Beta as recommended, and I try to do simple searches such as by sender name, etc, and I get no results.

I am in LOOOOOOOVE with Word!! OMG! The only bad part of this is that i'm going to need to pony up $$$ for this 🙁

I haven't tried anything else yet, but word is such an awesome upgrade... and i love Word in 2003, but this is so much better!

DLing now . . .

Does the 2007 overwrite 2003 if you have it installed? I'm not sure I want to get rid of the 100% functional 2003 for a beta.

If you choose Upgrade (like my GF did), you end up with both still installed. By design (for the beta) or bug I don't know.

On my box I completely removed 2003 1st anyway after backing up my pst.

I may try putting this on my laptop and not bother with the main machine so that it doesn't give me issues.

Thanks for the link!

Hey, this thing is sweet. Yes, that's coming from a rather rabid Linux user (and yes, I ran it under VMWare 😉). I like it a lot more than I thought I would when I first saw the interface. ("Yuck, another newbie fisher price GUI.") But it's not like that at all. The VBA macros work like they always have, a big plus for me. It's also great that you can keep your old version of Office. It seems just as fast as the old Office. The docx XML format sounds interesting but I haven't investigated it. As far as I can tell, it works transparently just like doc has with older Offices. to MS for this free beta.

You know what would be cool? If you could post a docx file as an AnandTech forum post. That would help a lot with managing big posts such as "stickies". Are there any sites that can use an XML file as a source, like that? I suppose one could always make a macro to convert it into forum pseudo-code. I think it would be awesome if MS implemented a forum vBCode encoder.

Does anybody know what happened to MS Document Imaging? It appears to be missing from Office 2007, unless it's in a completely different section now. I need something to display electronic faxes.

I wont judge your own personal satisfaction with the format but by and large, people dont care for mdi. It would seem that programs which automatically put scans and faxes into PDF or jpg are much more popular.
We tried using it in our office and folks didnt like it. Too many customers and associates who couldnt figure it out or maybe didnt have full versions of Office.

Smooth!

It's taking me some time getting oriented to the new menu layouts.

If you're having any trouble, and are able to at least get Office 2007 installed, try this:

Microsoft Office Tools / Microsoft Office Diagnostics (& run the diagnostics to reveal problems)

This version of Office is AWESOME. I've only tried out word and excel so far, but MS has done some very impressive work.
