Office 2000 Question...

I installed Office2000 pro onto a Windows 98SE machine and am having problems. Whenever I start up any of the office programs, they just shut back down! I mean literally, I open up word or access or powerpoint and snap! Closes right back up. no error code or nothing! I de-installed and re-installed and it still does the same thing.

Anyone have this problem before?
All helps appreciated.

I am throwing out some ideas. Have you tried shutting down all background programs (ctrl-alt-delete them)? How about downloading the latest updates for Office. I think they are up to Service Pack 2a.

If you are using a blacklisted serial number and you have installed updates, Office will no longer work. Assuming you are getting no error messages (which would point to different issues), the relevant Knowledge Base articles are here (if you installed SR-1) and here (if you installed Project 2000).

As a side note, Office service releases are currently at SR-1a.

Office Service Releases may include updates available separately, but also include updates and patches available only through the SR.

Office Service Packs are collections of patches/fixes otherwise available separately (they are used to facilitate upgrades across a large facility).

In any case, wnied's issue would probably NOT be resolved by applying any patches/fixes since it was most likely caused by SR-1 or Project2000. The only fix is a valid serial number.

So SP-2/SR-1a would be the best way to be up to date. Typically, Service Packs/Releases should not cause more problems than cure, but this is Microsoft. wnied did not mention installing SR-1a or Project 2000, but either may be causing the problem. Hopefully, wnied will let us know.
