EDIT: Please place some forum rules on the top of Off Topic...

At the top of the Hot Deals forum, there's a thread listing the forum rules...
Ditto at the top of the Highly Technical forum

I think it would be a good idea to put together a thread like that for the Off Topic forum, to remain permanently stickied at the top. Recently there was a thread that stated that derogatory references to homosexuals (using slang terms, etc) would not be tolerated. That thread is no longer stickied, and any newbies (or people not posting daily) would have missed it.

This is in reference to a recent post where someone's punchline had something to do with california fires, San Francisco, and the word "flaming." I saw several members immediately jump on him, calling for "BAN", yet I felt that as unsensitive as his joke was (and it wasn't close to funny), without knowing the rules, it was just a joke in poor taste.

Use common sense and you don't have to worry about getting banned.

Agreed it is a good idea, also i think a list of banned words maybe an idea.....i never realised the st-b word was banned until recently.

I think its a good idea to have a list of rules at the top of each forum and it would certainly help clear up issues including a list of banned words, topics, etc.

The problem with having a list of bannable words is that people will just slightly modify the words they use.
Look at the way swearwords are used now - you can't post them, so people just use a ! instead of i, or whatever.

So the mods would have to constantly update the rules, like some kind of antivirus/ virus writer battle.

Or, we could continue the current system, where the mods hand out warnings and then bans as appropriate, and we all give and take a little

OMFG it did

to make matters worse the correct answer is almost 10% behind the incorrect answer in the poll, again I repete this is why I seek to avoid OT. I just had to add RossMan's PDF to my sig!
