of the sub 500 touchscreen notebooks

You need to post a little more info than that. What do you plan to use it for, where is it you're shopping, what currency do you use, etc.

If you have literally no preferences whatsoever, other than "sub $500" and "has touchscreen", then literally any machine that fits the bill should do.

I agree with lehtv, we need to know some particulars to be able to make recommendations and help you.

I think his question is best answered by what you, as the responder, would buy with $500 and why... If I'd been looking at them, I'd offer up a suggestion. $500 is deep in the "budget" category so I'd confidently assume that he/she wants to know what the generally accepted best value is...

I bought an Asus 11" Vivobook (x202 I think) and swapped the HDD for an SSD. Except for the screen (horrible colors and viewing angles) it has been great, even when running a VM and solidworks. I mainly use it for travel and it fits perfectly on a tray table with enough room to hold your drink as well. I've seen it on sale lately for $300.

It's too vague. These can all vary: Screen size and quality, keyboard quality, CPU speed (including turbo), graphics, RAM, HDD size and type, OS.

The one I would recommend would change based on how much each of the above are important and why.

Which would i buy? None, I'd be looking for a more expensive model.
