are you overclocking? wont know untill then. what case are you planning to get? get 120mm fans, because they're nice and quiet

lol. if i had the money, i'd replace all my case fans with high speed fans (tornados or deltas).. i could care less about fan sound.. that's what music is for :)

2 120mm fans (1 for intake and 1 for exhaust) should be adequate for just about anyone. however the more airflow the better, as long as you dont create too much turbulance (ie fan placement)

Antec SLK3000B comes with a 120mm already installed as exhaust, and has spot for another 120mm for intake. Awesome case for $46 shipped from amazon.com. Power supply not included though.

In my opinion, a couple well-placed, low- to mid-speed fans should be more than enough for most systems.

And if you're looking for an affordable, quality case, the Antec SLK3000B, 3700AMB, and 3700BQE are all excellent choices. ;)

I like a case with at least, one fan for the main window to let air in or out your choise.
One or two in the back to suck heat off the hsf for the cpu.
One blowing across the Hd bay. And if you want extra cooling one blowing out the top, however becareful with this one because it may cause the power supplie to struggle for air.

Hd fans are a nice investment that is quiet and keeps them cool.

Stock HSF are fine if you are running at "Stock speeds" however if you are going to OC i would suggest xp-120, or xp-90 heat sinks. Very nice and keeps the Cpu very cool.

I just build my first system aswell, and it was with a 3200+ (socket 939). It runs fine with the stock HSF, although it is a bit noisey (thats what winamp is for). I havent started Overclocking yet, but Im planning to get a thermalright XP-90 when i do.

*looks at his current system*

By my standards, you only need one. ;)

The number of fans is much less relevant than the airflow design of the case.

excellent question.

I just built a new PC, and other than the CPU and PSU fan, I just used the two fans that came with the case (side and back). I made the side fan an intake fan, and left the back fan as an exhaust.

My CPU temps are around 39 now, though they have been as low as 32. My highest load temp has been 45, and lowest 38. I may need more fans because my NB temp is in the mid 40's now, before it was in the low 30's. I have no idea what is going on since I didn't make any changes to the layout other than rearranging some wires, and adding plastic tubes for better cable management.

My case doens't have too many places to put additional fans without modding though. So I don't know.

i have 2 120mm fans one blowing in from the front, and one exaust fan from the back. it works really well, im thinking about modding it to have one blowing in from the top, and one in from the side. just get the fans with the most airflow. if you have headfones, you'll never hear a thing. also, air conditioning is a very good thing to use.
