Better get your facts straight. Mercedes gave some of its tech (example, the only reason the Chrysler 300 isn't a steaming pile of shit is because of its Mercedes injected DNA) but didn't really use anything from Chrysler.

There is no Chrysler anything involved in any Mercedes vehicle.

I didnt say they did give technology, only that the merger tarnished their image. Perhaps you should read a little better.

I read very clearly... "When I look at their vehicles now I see a cheap boxy looking american car."

The only logical conclusion your perception of Mercedes comes from sharing of technology.

Otherwise, Mercedes is still #1 in terms of consumer brand image of mainstream luxury vehicles.

Jesus, when the hell have you ever seen a girl driving a Cayenne? I have not.

I just think they are a little egg-shaped and feminine. The grill is not very aggressive from what I've seen of the 2010. I would still drive one...but for the price I would rather get an AMG M class.

You can't really compare a Mercedes to a "cheap boxy looking American car", let alone, call it one.

Not at all. The perception is due to being merged with an American car company regardless of any technology transfer.

I don't know, my perception of Jaguar (Indian) or Volvo (Chinese) or Lotus (Malaysian) hasn't suddenly gone down just because of corporate ownership or ties.

Why not? Their SUVs are very boxy.

Benz? Not the M class. It isn't egg-shaped like the Lexus SUVs, but it isn't boxy.

The GLK is a bit boxy but I love the look and aggressive styling. The GL looks like an extended M class and isn't as sleek. The G is definitely boxy. It is for a different market (rappers? I dunno.) and they look nice up close...still boxy though.

Note this only applies to 2009 models and on. The older M classes (from circa 2006) are a bit ugly. They just had no style to them.

FJ Cruiser, the new Boxy Honda Pilot, the boxy Range Rover, Sequioa, Lexus LX, Infiniti QX 56, ... they don't seem boxy to you?

I dont pay attention to asian brands. Except the Lexus LS250. So I really dont care either way if they are boxy or not. When looking at vehicles for myself I look at Audi, BMW, and on occassion Mercedes.

Either way what is your point in this discussion? You going to try to logically make me change my mind about my opinion of Mercedes at present? Save your typing for a more worthwhile topic ;)

How can you call Mercedes Benz SUVs boxy, when most all SUVs have similar designs!? Thats my logic.

While I respect some of the products from each of these companies, neither makes something that I *have* to have, and I prefer various competitors offerings for value and performance (or it's just something that I just don't have a use for, eg : Ipad).

Hmm, just to check things out, compared a 17" Macbook Pro in basic config to a 17" PC Notebook found on newegg :

Apple Macbook Pro $2300
Intel Core i5 2.53ghz Dual-Core CPU
4GB DDR3 Memory
500GB 5400RPM Drive
17" LED 1200P Display
DVD+-RW Drive
Intel HD Video + Nvida GT330 w/256mb GDDR3
Gbit Lan / Wireless N / etc

vs.

Asus G73 $1800
Intel Core i7 720M Quad-Core CPU
8GB DDR3 Memory
1TB 7200RPM Drive (dual)
17" LED 1080P Display
Blu-Ray Reader / DVD+-RW Drive
Radeon 5870 Mobility w/1GB GDDR5 (!!!)
Gbit Lan / Wireless N / etc

now, there will be elements on the Macbook which are superior, probably overall construction quality and materials/aesthetics, along with a probably superior battery life (I know the smaller Macbooks have awesome battery life at least!), but for a savings of $400 with a massively superior spec list, it's no question for me at least on computers. As far as smartphones, I don't really use them, but I might consider an iPhone when they get away from AT&T, and I don't really care for mp3 players, though my GF's Zune is pretty sweet.

Oh yes they did.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercedes_benz#Innovations

Maybe I'm wrong on the Apple stuff but Mercedes did patent all of those.

Are you really that stupid? They did not invent air bags, abs, etc... even your own link has all the play on words made for idiots that can't read.

Such as "implemented into passenger cars—first" or "in the European market" etc.. they did not invent it they just used it first in certain cars or first in a single market.

I received the same treatment from Porsche/Audi dealer. Was trying to sell me used stuff and obviously didn't take me seriously. Wouldn't listen to me and show me what I wanted and was just a dick.

Mercedes dealer took us seriously and treated us very nicely, never talking down to us, even though we are very young (in our 20s) and don't dress the yuppy role. Ended up buying a G class and M class from them.

I'm happy though as I feel both Lexus and Audi SUVs are a little egg shaped. The Cayenne is more of a girl car too, even though I still like it. BMW SUVs look boxy and I *hate* their taillights.

I do like some BMW/Audi/Porsche cars, but I really do think 2009 and 2010 Mercedes SUVs are the best looking of the bunch.

Also, Land Rover = overpriced and not luxury. I had the urge to pop out of the sunroof and wave my AK around when test driving it.

I couldn't disagree more with this post.

1) Who makes a decision on the car they are buying by one dealership experience? I could understand if it was the only dealership in your area...and the place where you are going to have it serviced. I've been to bad Mercedes, BMW, Chevrolet, Toyota, Audi, etc dealerships. Lets face it half of the dealerships out there are bad apples...that's why you shop around till your're satisfied with your experience. I would never choose the car I'm buying because of one bad dealership.

2) Porsche Cayenne a girls car? Really? You think an M or G is less of a girls car? That's obscene. I could understand if you said all CUV vehicles are girl cars...but that the mercedes ones are less "girly" than the Porsche...no way. The Porsche is by far the most capable of the lot...both on and off road. And I regularly drive late model M and G SUV's as they are our company cars. I'd take a Porsche Cayenne over either in a second...even with it's ugly ass styling.

3) Land Rover is not Luxury? Are you crazy? Have you been in a new Land Rover LR4 or Range Rover. Land Rovers fail at EVERYTHING except two things: Luxury and off road capabilities. They are ugly, drive like crap, as unreliable as Bob Dole's dick, and used to have less power than a riding lawn mower...but they have always been luxurious and very capable off road.
