Does the key for Xp home that comes with laptops work if you want to do a fresh install of xp home? I have the restore image on a partition but I want to reformat and repartition the entire drive which will leave me with no image. If i can get myhands on a legit xp home cd and use the key supplied will it work?
 
The manufacturer of your laptop will provide you with media if you ask. That's the only way you'd be able to reinstall if your HD died.

That's not entirely accurate. You can use any XP OEM cd, and the oem product key on your desktop/notebook will work just fine. You may have to call in to activate.
 
I know, that's what I told him above. The comment about them giving him a disc was in reference to him saying he needed to find a disc.
