looks like a pretty nice deal here as they're trying to get rid of all the 1800's

Where did you hear that?

at, hf, everywhere.... they're ditching the x1800 core and moving all production with regards to both hardware and driver updates toward r580

why do you think the prices have dropped so hard.

OEM == refurbished

lol. no

An original equipment manufacturer (frequently abbreviated "OEM") is a company that builds products or components which are used in products sold by another company (often called a value-added reseller, or VAR). An OEM will typically build to order based on designs of the VAR. For example, a hard drive in a computer system may be manufactured by a corporation separate from the company that markets and sells the computer, or a loudspeaker in a stereo system made by a company that specializes in audio manufacturing.

OEM hardware can be purchased by end users at considerable savings of 30% or more. For example, OEM hard drives are purchased in a simple plastic bag without the additional cables or bulky box found in the more expensive retail package.

this is a great deal especialy when you compare it to the 7900GT, because it's faster than it, runs comperably to it, and now costs less.

plus, if you turn the fan to 100%, you can have your own pretend jet! 😉

yep, ditched my x1900xt stock hs/fan the day after i bought it. It sucks as a cooler, plus being able to hear it through a wall doesn't get it any points.

Yesterday the OEM x1800xt 256mb was listed for $219.

Also yesterday they had the x1800xt 512mb version, OEM, for $250, $1 shipping. I bookmarked the page, and now it links to the Retail version for $319. I woulda bought the OEM if I had the money available that day.

Get the 512 off the fs/ft forum and bio flash it to a xt PE FTW
Then she be smokin!
Can be found for under $250 easily used 😉

I ordered the OEM 256mb over the weekend and got it today. It comes with all the cables and the drivers CD. Had some problems installing drivers, but now running like a charm.

just the extra 256mb but in newer games and for the future it can make the difference between playability and chopy game play.

also 4x vs 8x deal the same year (?)
yet to see a difference

Benchmarks of this thing vs a 7900GT?

From what I have seen the results are very similar. Really comes down to brand loyalty- nVida vs ati

However being 60$ cheaper the ati seems to be to be a better buy in this case. Only problem to keep in mind is ati's fans on their cards are horrendously loud so add 20-40$ to the price if you decide to pickup an aftermarket fan/heatsink.

Also keep in mind that with the x1900 gt cards on their way to replace the x1800xt ati stopped production on the x1800xt so we could see some major price drops on the way (ala the x850xt)

This model doesn't compare to a 7900GT. You need the 512 version for that.

The 256MB version competes just fine with the 7900GT. Theres only a few games that really gain you much having 512MB at this point.
